I've search till I'm blue in the face on this and about 4 other forums but I am still up on arms about using Boveda or Heartfelt beads for my first Humi. Both seem really easy to maintain which is appealing. The seasoning process when using the beads is where it gets me. The seasoning process with Boveda seems really easy, but takes 10days. 10 days is no big deal to me, I guess I'm just looking for some insight....

Boveda or Heartfelt Beads?

I was having some serious problems maintaining RH in my humi (I was actually at the point where I was going to throw it out). A friend suggested I use Boveda packs to season the humi and beads to keep it maintained. Sounded good (and overall cost me less than $20 for everything). I added 3 69% Boveda packs to my 200 ct Humi for about 10 days. Then I put in my Cigar Oasis and some beads in there afterward and now im at a constant 65%. Even if I have it open for extended periods of time (which I try to never do) the RH is always quick to bounce back. It worked awesome for me and its a cheap solution. Hope this helps..

Both work well. The downside to the boveda packs, is you have to replace them every so often (probably about every 3 months). The beads do not need to be replaced and just need to be hydrated when they turn white. After misting with distilled water they will turn clear. Other than that they both work very well.

i used the boveda seasoning packet to season the humidor when i got it, the pack is at like 84%RH, and then used the bead for everyday control of the rh

Unless it's a very large humi, all you'll need are the beads. You can just use a bowl of distilled water to season it with too.
I have distilled water and sponges. I think I'll go with the conventional seasoning method and use the Heartfelts.

That's what I've done with all of mine, it's pretty straightforward. Definitely pick up some beads though.

Anyone know where i can get a good deal on the beads? Also do you think beads would work on this humi? I have a cigar oasis ultra, but i think it is too small and needs me to add water almost every day.

To season: shot glass filled with distilled water (apprx. 2 weeks or until reach & maintain desired humidity)
Maintain humidity: Petsmart - ExquisiCat Pearl Fresh Litter or Boveda packs

If I was going to rehumidify cigars, and was not real practiced with what is available, I would have to look at what would lock humidity at a certain level, and then the easiest way to start ratcheting the humidity up in a very controlled fashion.
I myself have both beads, and humidipaks. I love the carefree aspect of the humidipak. Just total forget about them aspect is great. The replacement part sucks on the cigar budget. It is my understanding that after 65% rh, the moisture stops penetrating the wrapper as easily, and starts concentrating at the foot.
So after 65, i would want to be very slow bring the humidty any further, if desired.
Here is where the active units might have an advantage as you could tweak the RH up very incrementally.
