HONOLULU -- A freak accident in a parking lot on King Street left many people perplexed and a speeding Lexus on top of another car.

How the Lexus ended up atop another car seemed hard to describe with words for many of the witnesses.

Police said an 80-year-old woman driving the Lexus had slowed to pick up a friend, then suddenly accelerated.

Witness accounts vary wildly. Some said the driver was going 40 mph, others said 70 mph. What is clear: she was going fast enough that a Dumpster, a wall and another car weren't enough to stop her.

The loaded dumpster flipped, spewing a weekend's worth of trash. A destroyed tile wall catapulted the Lexus onto a gold sedan, which was pushed across the parking lot onto a Volvo.

Police said the driver was treated for minor injuries, and no one else was injured. The incident left seven vehicles damaged.

Man suprised this did not happen in Florida...all in favor of mandatory testing after age 65 and as you get older the smaller the car you are allowed to drive.

My salty nuts were no where near that 80 year old woman! LOL! I do remember that accident... it was a couple of months ago. It happened in the parking lot of a strip mall that houses a cigar shop and my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. I saw it in the paper and went to the restaurant to do a take-out lunch and the owner told me what he knew.... seems that the women hit the gas instead of the brakes and next thing you knew she was out of control and slamming into cars and the dumpster! The dumpster and wall is located right behind the restaurants back door but they weren't around since this happened around midnight.

I'm glad no one was seriously hurt and I have a feeling that the driver won't be behind the wheel anymore... probably a good thing for herself and everyone else.

Aloha,

Wade

This is almost a daily occurence here in South Florida. Ok, ok, every other day. Ok, correction. Every three days, and mainly in Broward County to Palm Beach County. :sign:

LOL. Every time I take my mom's car out when I'm visiting I see my life flash before my eyes.

I love it when you see a car coming at you and all thats visible is a little bit of white hair sticking up above the stearing wheel. Who needs to see? Who needs to stay between the lines? I'm old, get out of my way!
