Hello SD County BOTLs - I hope y'all are staying safe and my prayers and thoughts are with you.

I need some HELP - I grew up in Encinitas/Carlsbad in North County and my Mom still lives there. She received a call form the Carlsbad Police this morning at 6:15 am warning her to prepare for evacuation and we have spoken several times in the last few hours with the last news being that Rancho Santa Fe was being evacuated and San Elijo Hills was next, since then I have heard nothing. Her land lines and cell are not working, and neither is e-mail. Does anybody know what is going on in the Southern part of Carlsbad near the intersection of Olivenhain and Rancho Santa Fe roads? I'm here in Dallas and am a bit worried as I lived there during the 1996 and 2003 Firestorms. I was one of the homeowners on their roofs with hoses, wet t-shirts around my face, ignoring the evacuation notices. My family's home made it through safe then but I'm worried this time. I still have many friends in the area but can't get anyone on the horn. Any information is appreciated.

My thoughts and prayers to LA County BOTLs as well.

UPDATE - Just heard from my Mom and they've been issued an evacuation order, not mandatory yet. They've been asked to stay off cell phones. Local news and internet info is just recycled newsertainment crap. Evac area is supposedly North of 56 East of 15 and 5?

ANY info would still be appreciated.

It's insane. Two fires started yesterday both in the desert, N and S of us, we are in Carmel Valley / Delmar. The one N has now hit Rancho Bernardo (that's traveling at speed). The problem is that we have unusual Santa Ana winds busting up to 60 MPH and these winds come out of the East, our prevailing winds come out of the West.

Yesterday it was not pleasant being outside, now it is far worst. The TV is now showing houses burning in Ranch Bernardo probably 20 miles due E of us...25,000 people without electricity and countng.

The Governor I believe declared a state of emergency today, not sure why he didn't do it yesterday. Once this is declared outside federal help can come in. The wind is so bad that fibers are going into the air flying all over. There are now 8 fires, they are saying it's the worst fires in history. HOLY CRAP!!!

Prayers go out to those in SoCal....Reminds me of the 2003 fires when they got right up to the bomb dump in Miramar...

UPDATE - Thank you Charlie for the update call and to Brian I have a better idea of what's going on. Still worried though. My Family friends in Olivenhain have been ordered to evacuate and friends in San Ellijo Hills and San Marcos have already been evacuated. My Mom is just about finished packing the car and her friends from Olivenhain are on their way over to drive out with her. Good luck to all!
I can't imagine anything worse than 2003 and 1996 but that's what they're saying.

Our prayers are with your mom and her friends as well. I pray they have safe travel and good refuge until this "blows" over.

If any BOTL or SOTL have family here in San Diego County and want fresh updates feel free to PM me for my number and I'll do my best to fill you in or if there is something that I can do let me know.

Also, if all the SD Brothers can check in on this thread it would be great to know you are safe.

Charlie

Just got news that my nephew and his family just evacuated. They live in Rancho Bernardo and now on their way to my sister's house to hopefully wait out the fire.

Prayers and well wishes to everyone in the area.

Holy s##t! Just saw a clip on Fox News, two firefighters standing on a porch overlooking a ridge and waiting for the fire to come up the edge, the embers were covering the house and they were waiting for water. It looked like Dante's Inferno, those firemen are beyond brave, God be with them all. If the situation is going to be like this every year maybe it's time to get out while the gettings good, more or less. Hope everyone is safe!

UPDATE - PRAY FOR RAIN! Just got word the fire is at the edge of Crosby Ranch near RSF and that San Marcos Univ MAY be on fire or surrounded by it. The problem is that the smoke is so thick now that it is eyewitness accounts only and even those are having difficulty distinguishing smoke from fire. ALL of the fires are 0% contained - yes I said ZERO! God bless the brave fighters, they will need it. PRAY FOR RAIN!

I know this isn't cigar related but I'm thankful for the BOTLs here that have sent well wishes and updates. Especially since the News stations are useless at this point.

edited to correct typos and add the following:

Just received word form my Mom that she received Mandatory Evac order about 30 minutes ago and she has left the house with a caravan of neighbors to a friends home on the beach.

UPDATE - Well it gets worse. The house my Mom evacuated to is now under voluntary evacuation!!!
250,000 to 325,000 people in the county have been evacuated. According to a neighbor that stayed behind, it looks like the fire has gone South of my Mom's and the winds have started to die down. Still reports of 200 ft walls of flames on the leading edge of three of the fires. It is gonna be BAD.

Glad to hear your mom is safe. These past couple of days have been a nightmare here in SoCal. I'm pretty far away from most of the fires but the sky is a very creepy looking yellowish brown and you can't even breath out side.

The winds have died down where I am, Carmel Country, just S of the 56. This is excellent news, now they can begin to contain this nightmare. I did hear that parts of Delmar
have been put on alert. It's not over yet but it's starting to look better.

My heart goes out to those that have lost their homes.

Brian

Glad to hear that all the BOTLs here are safe and things are looking better. My Mom is back home tonight but is still on edge and said it is scary looking outside. My heart goes out to those that lost their homes, over the years I've seen many a friend and neighbor lose their homes to the runnin' devil.

We have evacuated. We are at a friends house in La Jolla...really sucks. Watching the news!

Brian

Man, what a frightening sight this all is. :(

It's sad to see so many losing their homes. Hopefully it will be in control soon.

Does anyone know if the fires are close to Murrieta? An old buddy of mine lives there. I haven't talked to him in ages. I guess I need to look him up...

Stay safe, Brian. I'm thinking about you and your family.

My grandma and aunt and uncle were evacuated this morning. Last we heard they are staying in their car in La Jolla because all the hotels are booked and the roads are closed... scary.
