I have received several trades recently, and several of the sticks were in individual zip lock style baggies. All the sticks were un-celloed.

I was just wondering, why do you use these bags? Is it just to protect the delicate little bundle of rolled up, dried plant leaves? :p

Do you store your sticks in the humi this way or bag 'em to send them out?

When you receive sticks in these bags, do you take them out when you place in storage or leave them in their baggies?

I’ve seen a few posts about people needing and/or wanting more bags and was wondering why use them.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks.

I use the baggies and I love them!

I have the 2mil 2"x8" ziplock type to use when sending out bombs/trades/gifts. This helps to protect them as well as hold in the moisture. These bags are $7+ per thousand. When you send out the sticks, be sure to label them if you know what you are sending. :)

I also have just started using the thinner 1.5mil 2"x8" regular baggies (no ziplock) to store them in my humidors. It is a good way to protect the non-cellophaned sticks and also a great way to label the unbanded cigars. Most of the ISOMs will come without bands and even with the bands, it may be hard sometimes to tell what size they are. If you are aging individual sticks, or have been given aged singles you can write the Box Code and Date on the bags when available. I personally do not have full boxes of ISOMs so all of mine are singles and most of them are aged so this is really helpful to me. The thinner bags do not bunch up like the ziplock type and there is not a closure on them to impede proper placement in your humi. The open top also allows for proper humidification. THe non-lock type baggies are $3+ per thousand.

They are too cheap not to use IMO.

Both and much more can be bought at veripack.com.

That is a great idea, I never thought of it. I wish they made a 1 x 8 version of that to keep them a little slimmer, but sounds like they work well none the less.

for me the only reason is for shippping of uncello'd sticks. once stored I keep the cello off and recycle the baggies.

I do keep them for unbanded sticks which are a small percenage of my collection.

:0 Oh , Yea, i guess I could put cigars in them :sign: :sign: That is something I could take out in public

I still have some 2mil 2"x8" ziploc top baggies up for grabs if anyone wants to try some out. Want 50? 100? 150?

No charge , 'cause its the holidays and I'm feeling generous!

PM me your addy and desired quantity.

I would like to get some of these where do you purchase them?
Don't laught but I have been using ziplok snack baggies. They work but they are not in that price range and are not very good of dimensions.

TIA - BUD

And PM sent...

Just like a condom, they are in the best intrest of protecting your stick!!!

I cut the zipper off of them and roll them tight and fold the ends over and tape them shut to protect my singles that have no cello. And when storing a five pack I use the bigger ones. You cut the zipper of put in five or so styx with the foot at the open end, fold the side over and tape in place leaving the open end open so the styx can breath and it is a done deel!!!

That's odd, I have one friend who says to "NEVER TAKE THE CELOPHANE OFF OF THE CIGAR!" when you place it in a humidor and another that says you have to to absorb the full effect of the humidity. Why the differences in opinion?

cello and baggies are nice if you have lots of diff. kinds if singles thrown togeather.
that way, wrappers do not get damaged if you are moving them about to get to one.

cello on helps w/ aging over a loong time
no cello makes them age faster to good smokage potential.

also, if you have a part of your humi w/ a bunch of the same stick, no cello will help them to age better among themselves

Thanks SSAL, I'd bet each friend is doing the right thing for different reasons. Unless, of course, they are both just plain clueless..... ???

what's that one cigar site that is now not being added to, but has a wealth of info on cigars? I forget what it's called, but they have the best info on the net.

They have sections on staring and aging that are great.

Hey Geldor1,

Getting back to your original question, I think it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that when un-celloed cigars are shipped, they should be in these individual plastic baggies. I've received a few packages where naked sticks are all tossed into one large baggie and during shipping damage to naked sticks is almost a certainty. The exception to this rule is the five packs that companies like CI send out, the five sticks are almost always SAFE from damage in that configuration (lined up flat with no room for movement). Again as I mentioned, if I'm putting a bunch if cigars in a pass or a trade package, I ALWAYS make sure that naked sticks are in these 2x8 baggies or the 1.5 x 8 non zip lock ones that SD mentioned.

I also never take the cello off cigars because the cello offers protection in the humidor. These baggies also provide that same protection (from damage).

I know this sounds like a contradiction but I don't store cigars in my humi in those baggies.
