CigarPass.com 2nd Annual Herf - THE HERF

Maybe its helping to contribute to the furvor of law making, but I sure delight in puffing on the patio of Casa Fuente while watching the glares of the folks going down the escalator. Life don't git no better than that!

From a reliable source.

Question 5 was put forth to the state’s voters and they approved it during the election last week. It states that smoking must be banned where there are slot machines in convenience stores, supermarkets, gas stations, and bars that serve food. Most of those places already have smoking bans in place but the areas where you’ll find the slots and video poker have been exempt – so people could puff away while they were gambling before gassing up the car or getting groceries, presumably.

Now if you want to drop a few nickels into the slot machine while getting your Big Gulp, you’ll have to do it without a cigarette in your mouth.

However, bars that do not serve food and, yes, major casinos are exempt from the new law. So, if you were thinking you’d be able to spend a few hours at your favorite Strip casino and not walk out smelling like smoke, you’re going to be disappointed.

The ballot measure was fiercely opposed by the folks who run the establishments affected, with them worrying that their gamblers would go to the big casinos where they can indulge in their vices unencumbered, but voters apparently want to be able to have their hot wings, a beer, and some deuces wild without having to inhale someone’s second hand.

Major casino operators pretty much stayed out of this fight but some are reportedly privately worried that this could be paving the way for attempts at a larger ban on smoking in their gambling halls also. It’s not that they are worried that such a ban would ever actually get passed – it won’t, or at least not in our lifetimes – but having to fight such a ban could set them up for some bad public relations so they are hoping to avoid that if they can.

The Law goes into effect the 28th..the day after my birthday..so I plan on smoking a cigars in public somewhere!!!!

Funny thing about question 5 is, it did not pass here in Clark County, but got enough votes up north to pass the law.

TTT.

Only 6 months to make your plans.

Hope we have a large turnout this year.!

I will be making my reservations early next month.

where is this being held?

Las Vegas..

The details are being ironed out by the planning commitee. This is looking to be one hell of an impressive herf. The locations they are trying to decide between are awesome. This will be alot better than last year!

Hope alot of you guys can make it out this year .

Last year, we arrived THINKING we had a solid venue. That fell through, but we made the best of it. This year, we're being meticulous in preparing an event, not just a HERF. Right now, we have two good restaurant venues to chose from for the main event and several collateral events throughout the weekend. I expect we'll have something to post inside of a week. The dates are pretty firm. Some of us will be there, killing giraffes on Thursday, June 21. The main event will be June 23. By all indications, I expect 50 Brothers, guests, and spouses to be in town. If you aren't sure about coming, you may want to keep an open mind, pending the posting of the agenda.

I plan to go. Any updated info on the possible group discount at a feasable hotel? Not meaning to sound anything more than plutonic, but it would be nice if we were in walking distance of each other. "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" (pray I won't get sued for using this motto). :0 :) ;)

We briefly discussed going for a group rate, but many of the group are Vegas regulars and stay all over the map. It also doesn't help that none of the casinos would support the HERF, even with a group stay, so fuggum. This far out, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a deal. Once the agenda is more firm, we'll start another planning thread so everyone can share details.

Dave as we get cloeser to the date I will post up offers I get from the various casinos. Usually some sort of offer code. Sometimes some great rates are to be had along with additional goodies.

But Book early is you find a rate that is reasonable. You can always cancel and re-book if you find something better.
