You hit it on the nose. Have a look at the second picture. Better focus and definitely square.

On a side note, I was told by a vendor in Sweden that from his experience, the cigars contained in cardboard boxes tend to be of poorer quality. I took it with a grain of salt and since I was buying gifts, I proceeded to buy 3 Trinidad REs in individual cardboard packs and a 3 pack box of CoRos. When I returned to the states, I obtained some of both vitolas from cabinets and compared the sticks to those in the boxes. Lo and behold, he was right. Even though slight, the cigars from the boxes definitely looked as if they were of poorer quality. 2 of the REs and 1 of the CoRos from the boxes had blemishes on the wrappers with tiny tears and part of the wrapper on one was a bit loose. Perhaps I got a bad batch, but since then, I've refrained from buying 3 or 5 packs of Cubans (Sig6 tubos don't count ).

You are spot on both comments/conclusions Strayvector. I can attest from my own (yet fairly limited) experiences the same issue with slight yet noticeable differences in quality in 3/5pack's vs those in cabs/boxes. The most noticeable issues were discoloration and quality (if perhaps condition) of the wrappers.

Every one who messeged me over this have had NO problems with the vender i got them from. Being new to all this and reading about fakes im glad to hear the vender is ok.

He e-mail back to say i could return the unsmoked cigars for a full refund, i cant ask for better than that.

alexgtp, i smoked one only after it had spent only a day in the humidifier being new to all this it sounds like i should of left them about two weeks.

cgarlvr, yes the lable should by squares and they are on my boxes and lables. It was just my crap photography skills.

Thanks to eveyone why posted and helped me with this. I have decided not to return them because i don't believe they are fakes i think they are just suffering from being stuck in the post for five days. I should point out we had some heavy snow here and they would of spent at least one night in a postal van at -4C. This would be beyond the venders conrol and can not put me of ordering from him in the future.

I'll leave em for a while then try another one, i'll let you know how i get on.

Most of the time the cigars from the hong kong vendor are way too humid. They generally need to be dried out for a minimum of a month or so at 58-62 percent humidity. Having said that, if the cigar is plugged, not just tight,then no amount of drying will fix that.

It's not necessarily fake, it's possible that its the string they use to hold the tobacco leaves together but... for a brand like Cohiba, it seems pretty unlikely that'd get past the QA folks.

...though, not impossible. I had a Padron 3000 with a piece of tiny red nylon string, barely visible, rolled up in the smoke. Pulled it out and it smoked fine; I'm sure it was authentic...just got by the sharp eyed QC folks. I kick myself in the butt for not taking a picture of that.

If the vendor has offerred to take them back, I would smoke another and see if they are still unsmokably tight. If so, return them for a replacement. Unless the cigars are dripping wet, the tightness will not improve to the point that you will be completely satisfied with them. I've smoked many cigars fresh out of a 75-80% humidity environment and the draw were fine. If you've got a bad batch, then let the vendor replace them.

I agree, if hes offering a refund, take it.
Chances are your not going to be completely satified with the rest of the Cohibas.
I would then not purchase them for a couple months, until he can flip some stock over, then maybe you will get a better batch.

I ran into the same super tight draw problem (not with the string) on a box of Monte's from a vendor in Spain. I let the box sit in my dry box for 2 months and the draw was still horrendous. I e mailed the vendor and sent them back. Awaiting notification from the vendor that the package arrive to him.

ok guys maybe i got a little carried with the string and the tight draw (the ones i tried were a bit like tring to smoke a stick) but i have bought three boxes of other cigars from the vender in the past and i am happy with the service and plan on doing business with him in the future
As for the string i can put that down to being a freak.

moki, it doesn't surprise me at all that a string was found. Cuba's quality control sucks big time. I have seen with my own eyes what passes for qaulity control in Cuba. I was at the Cohiba factory ( El Laguito ) and was amazed at how poorly the cigars were inspected by the QC people.
