One of my passions is reading my book budget is higher than my cigar budget. I like to match a cigar to a particular book as a compliment to the story or topic. I read almost anything except horror just dont care for it.

What i would like to do is a PIF with books. The way it would work is someone would put up a book with a short synopsis of what it is about. This should include title, author, page count and genure Ie humor Sci fi etc. the person who wants to read it would then post that they wanted it the person would then post what cigar they were sending with the book as a compliment to it it only has to be one stick but if someone wants to add more that is up to them.

The person who is on the receiving end must then offer up a book of their own with a cigar. The person receiving will also be expected to do a short review of the book with thier opinion and whether the cigar was a good match. Then they place the book back up for grabs with the stick they would have chosen.

I think we should make a time limit of 1 month to finish the book unless it is exceptionally long.

None of the books offered up should be religious texts or blatantly political IE al franken anne coulter types because this could cause a breach of the board rules.

do not post what cigar you are including until someone indicates they want the book then edit the post and put in what cigar. the reason for this is because this is about the books not the cigar.

there is no price tag on the cigar it just has to be something you think would go well with that book.

Audio Books are ok just indicate they are audio

I will offer up after Fidel written by Brian latell 264 pages. This book is a fairly good short history of how castro came about and what the author thinks will happen after he steps down. Which has happened since the printing of this book.

I will also offer up Phules Company written by Robert Asprin this is a humorous military fantasy book 232 pages very easy read and funny as hell. It is basically a spoof on the foriegn legion with a space setting and aliens.

and last one I will offer up is Boss of bosses written by Joseph F Obrien and Andris Kurins it is 373 pages and is about Paul Castellano and how he ended up murdered written by two FBI agents good read.

The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, Book one of His Dark Materials series. It is a good Fantasy book that I found myself getting wrapped up in. I really enjoyed reading it.

Pages: 351

In a landmark epic of fantasy and storytelling, Philip Pullman invites readers into a world as convincing and thoroughly realized as Narnia, Earthsea, or Redwall. Here lives an orphaned ward named Lyra Belacqua, whose carefree life among the scholars at Oxford's Jordan College is shattered by the arrival of two powerful visitors. First, her fearsome uncle, Lord Asriel, appears with evidence of mystery and danger in the far North, including photographs of a mysterious celestial phenomenon called Dust and the dim outline of a city suspended in the Aurora Borealis that he suspects is part of an alternate universe. He leaves Lyra in the care of Mrs. Coulter, an enigmatic scholar and explorer who offers to give Lyra the attention her uncle has long refused her. In this multilayered narrative, however, nothing is as it seems. Lyra sets out for the top of the world in search of her kidnapped playmate, Roger, bearing a rare truth-telling instrument, the compass of the title. All around her children are disappearing?victims of so-called "Gobblers"?and being used as subjects in terrible experiments that separate humans from their daemons, creatures that reflect each person's inner being. And somehow, both Lord Asriel and Mrs. Coulter are involved. --This text refers to the Paperback edition

ABOUT THIS BOOK
Paul Castellano headed New York's immensely powerful Gambino crime family for more than ten years. On December 16, 1985, he was gunned down in a spectacular shooting on Manhattan's fashionable East Side.

At the time of his death, Paul Castellano was under indictment. So were most of the major Mafia figures in New York. Why? Because in 1983 the FBI had hidden a microphone in the kitchen of Castellano's Staten Island mansion. The 600 hours of recorndings led to eight criminal trials. And this book.

Agents Joe O'Brien and Andris Kurins planted that mike. They listened to the voices. Now they bring you the most revealing look inside the Mafia ever ... in the Mafia's own words.

After Fidel

Coral Gables, FL – Cuban specialist Brian Latell presents his book “After Fidel:The Inside Story of Castro’s Regime and Cuba’s Next Leader”
In this latest book, Latell takes a look at the Castro brothers’ leadership qualities, personalities and character traits. Latell fuses his insights from numerous interviews with Castro family member and close associates, former Cuban officials, and previously unknown Castro family documents.

The book explores the relationship between the brothers, who although strikingly different in personalities and styles, have maintained a strong alliance from the beginning of the Cuban revolution. Castro has picked his brother Raul as his successor, so Latell’s book serves as an important analysis of what may come after Castro’s passing.

Latell has been one of the best recognized Castro specialists for over 40 years. He has advised American and foreign presidents, cabinet members and legislators about Cuba and Fidel Castro. For 20 years, he worked at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and served in the early 1990’s as National Intelligence Officer for Latin America.

He has written, lectured and consulted extensively, and has taught at Georgetown University.

Ditto man. While I love a great Herf as much as the next BOTL, a good 80-90% of my cigars are paired with books for quiet leisure time. I'm not home right now but I can already think of a half-dozen or so I'd like to put up for grabs.

Great Idea!
