Hello all,
I’m back from Vegas and I’m still recovering…
I figured I’d give you a run down of my cigar smoking activities there.
I came prepared with a handful of AF Hemingway Short Stories and CAO Italia Ciaos and one Opus Reserva D'Chateau.
That Friday afternoon I arrived . I smoked 2 Hemingways after eating at The Pink Taco at the Hard Rock. Unfortunately I blew my gambling allowance that night! At least the cigars were good!
Next day I drove up to the Lake of Fire north of Vegas after a stop to the In and Out burger. I smoked another Hemingway on the drive up. Lake of Fire was gorgeous – deep red rocks, and Indian petroglyphs. On the way back I smoked the CAO. When I first got these I was very disappointed. Something happened to them, probably just time in the humidor, and they taste fantastic now. Let me tell you it’s hard to nub a cigar driving 90 down the highway!
Coming back into town and headed off to Casa Fuente. I picked up 6 measly cigars for 150+ bucks. Of course they were a Sosa pyramid, BTL, WOAN, WOAM, Untold Story, and Casa Fuente Robusto. The Opus were redamndiculously expensive so I stayed clear. Somehow I justified my cigar splurge! Funny thing is the guy kept recommending cigars to me. I didn’t want to tell him he was preaching to the choir. But he did suggest the Sosa which I will tell you about later.
I realized the Big Smoke was happening soon so I boogied over to The Paris. When I arrived the line was ridiculous and the hallway was a haze of blue smoke. So I decided to add to the atmosphere and sparked up another SS. I was set on saving my Casa Fuente Stash! All around me were guys puffing on Esplendidos, PSD4’s, and Opus were everywhere! I received a coupon from a guy for a free ISOM. Finally 6:30pm arrived and we were whisked into the convention center. I got a stack of coupons for free sticks and began accumulating. It was a mad house but I somehow managed to get my free smokes (avoiding the flavored sticks).
I wound up purchasing two Prometheus Box sets signed by Carlos and Carlito. Carlito had a BBMF in his pocket and I really wanted to just grab it but better sense prevailed and I refrained from that!
I forgot to mention all the booze… I had a little bit of everything. It was difficult to have a lot of one thing because of the tiny portions they doled out. Highlights for me were the Taslisker, the Dalwhinnie 15, Pyrat rum, and Hennesey XO.
I needed some food to soak up the booze. Commander’s Palace had a fabulous turtle soup topped with sherry. Del Frisco’s had these steak sandwiches that were bloody rare and delish. There was another steak thingy that was ok. Oh and I tried a fig and chicharon (fried pork) skewer that was pretty awesome.
The eye candy was pleasant as well. They had shadow box dancers that were super hot. The CAO flavours girls were smoking hot and putting on temporary tattoos on people. They were dressed kind of like native Americans but I sure wanted to poke their hantas. There were a few hotties milling about smoking and drinking too.
The end to a perfect event I fired up my Opus (a gift from a friend). I wished I hadn’t had drank so much… But it was truly enjoyable. So I took my cigar and a smuggled glass of whisky into Napoleon’s. This joint is a dueling piano slash cigar bar. Everyone was blazing on stogies in here. Non-smokers were walking past this place and coughing and complaining.
It was a great night and I was prepared to do it again the next night!
The next night was pretty much the same. I decided to smok another SS in line. I decide to eat first and avoid the cigar rush. Had a big plate of the Del Friscos steak with chipotle sauce and some turtle soup. Then I got a two (small) glasses of Hennesey XO. I didn’t drink too much that night but for some reason I can’t remember what stoges I smoked. Basically it was more of the same from the precious night. Chatted with a lot of nice guys and ran into some guys from the previous night.
I bailed out of there and went over to Caeser’s to meet up with a old school buddy. We had drinks at the bar at Cleopatra’s Barge. I must say there was an awful lot of *cough* talent there. I smoked two more uninspired and unremembered stogies there.
Next day I got home cigared out with a slight sinus infection and a slightly swollen liver. My cool-a-dor is brimming full of cigars and I have started to look for a bigger one…
Oh, waiting for my plane to leave I took advantage of the Vegas airport bar and sparked up the Sosa pyramid I had bought (only $11). What a great cigar. Pre-light draw immediately told me this was going to be a good smoke. I fired that bad boy up! Indeed, it was delicious. I am a newbie on describing flavor profiles but it struck almost like an Opus light. Not really but it did have copious amounts of smoke, a bad burn (I blame the darn cardboard matches), and a wonderful flavor. I guess it was like if you mixed an Opus with a Short Story with a wonderful result.
I had a great trip and I regret not doing the full event… Maybe next year!
I also regret not being able to herf with Matty Vegas and the boys on Thursday night… Maybe next year too!
Cough,
Rob
