The pass is in my hands. I will do the puts and takes tonight. I will try to get it out in the morning if the post offices are open(Mardi Gras). If not, it will fly again Wednesday morning.

Alright, glad it finally landed! If you have any questions about the contest box, please let me know. Just put the smoke in there and add/remove peanuts as necessary to keep it from sliding around.

(and be sure to take the right envelope)

Anyone taken any unthinkable beats/ suck-outs lately? :whistling:

If you are talking about poker bad beats at a bar the other night I lost with a full house to a straight flush...he caught the river...a $40 non-mistake on my part but oh well.

Count your blessings....you only lost $40. ;)

My hand has got the itch and my arm started to twitch. I think it's time to shoot some dice this weekend. I'm going to Foxwoods

I was at Foxwoods back in December playing in one of their daily $120 Hold em tourneys and took a pretty bad one. It was my second hand in and I had A 9 off suit. I limped in, the flop came A-7-9 so I push in $300. The table folds around to a guy that was in the previous hand and he goes all in. I call thinking he hits his Ace.....well, he hit his pocket 7's, I about crap my pants, then push back and leave the table after 2 whole hands. At least I hit on the Roulette wheel for about $400 :)

I had two bad beats that cumulatively lost me about $4,500 in two hands which have me away from the tables periodically, until I can convince myself that It wasn't my fault...but that I truly got donked on.

First Hand: I had KK in the hole, raised to about $60 pre flop at $2/$5, got re-raised from the second seat (I was under the gun in first position) to $180 and I flat called. Flop came 10,3,6....I was under the gun with two players behind, pot was about $550 at this point. Came out with a $400 bet, and was raised by the second seat to $800. Third guy folds, I call. Turn is a 5. I bet out $700 (kind of like a call me bet), and he thinks and thinks and thinks....then calls. So the pot is about $3550 at this point, and I only have about $500 left, so no matter what I'm going all in on the river with 7:1 odds. Well, river is an A. My heart sank....I knew, but pushed anyways in case he had JJ or QQ. Well, SOB had A10 :0 , top-top on the flop and calling down the most conservative player on the table to hit his 11% river. Disgusting...

Second Hand: What do you know, I had KK again. Betting was low pre-flop, and I was heads up in late position. I raised (at $2/$5) to about $35 pre-flop, with one caller (in the Big Blind). Flop came 10,9,2 rainbow. He bets over the pot, roughly $100 total. I popped it to $300 cause I wanted to take it down right there, he smooth calls. Turn comes a K. He checks, I shove it all in...he snap calls and turns over JQ off-suit. I about threw-up. At MOST he's got 14 outs (granted I don't have an over pair), when realistically he only had 6 outs, or was 26% going to the turn. And not to mention, after seeing his hand, and having top set, I still had 9 outs (or 19%) to catch up on the river. Well, the poker gods didn't want me to win that night, and I've been boiling over it since.

These were the bad beats that Taylor (Dios de Fuego) was referencing towards the beginning of the pass thread. Just sucks how you can play every hand almost textbook perfect, and other players have no clue what they are doing....and get lucky. That's poker I guess....gotta love it and hate it....

You sound like PokerBrat. :sign:

I was at the casino a few weeks ago on a weeknight and sat down at a $15 Blackjack table with a measly $80 because I forgot to grab bullets before sitting. I was only there to have a couple smokes and play some cards with my dad. I play a 2-1-2-3-5 progressive bet in BJ, where the first bet is 2X the table minimum, and if you win you go to 1X, then on to 2X, 3X, etc. Theory being if you win the first hand, all subsequent bets are 'on the house'. If you lose, go back to 2X, and a push is a re-bet. I play by the book so I don't have to think about it. So, I go the whole dammed shoe (with only 4 at the table) and only lose 1 hand (to a dealer natural 21) and push once. I'm looking at my dad during the shuffle like wtf do I do now? I've got about $700 in front of me, only a third way through my DPG lancero with another smoke in my pocket and have been on the boat for 25 minutes. We are not ready to go. I color up a few hundred and pull it off the table. Needless to say most of the rest went back to the house.

So, we fuck about a bit on slots (which will suck me dry in a heartbeat). I don't really like them, but its a tradition for us. A rule of mine is if I double up the amount I put in a machine, I have to take it out. I can put the original amount back in and keep playing, but if I don't take it out sometime, it probably won't ever come out. So, I double up on 4 machines and have a few hundred in printer receipts in my pocket. I have yet to lose at this casino. But my favorite is, we were about ready to go, except the cigars weren't. We sit down at 25 cent slots and put in $10 while we finish smoking. I get confused as to what pays out sometimes. Well, I hit something and the machine starts dinging, but doesn't stop when I think it's supposed to. It finally goes until 1200 credits, which is $300. It's only $300, but every game I touched that night paid me out. That's a good feeling. Not as good, however, as the gray hair by the cage that hit a slot for $10,000.

Great stories! I thought I would throw one out. It pertains to a wonderful game called 3-card poker so I guess it's appropriate fro this thread. I had just turned 21 and was very interested in learning all games casinos had to offer. Also, the best way to learn is to play right? :whistling: Well, I only wanted to play the pair plus bet as few casinos are mandatory must play all three. It was about 3am in the morning at Harrah's in New Orleans. I was with my now wife, then girlfriend. She wasn't playing but rather sitting next to me just watching. I played 15 hands betting only $5-$10 on the pair plus and I hit a few pairs, a flush, and one straight. I was up about $100. I then decided to bet $15 on the pair plus and not even look at my cards (new strategy of luck ;) ) even thought it didn't matter as I am only playing against my own hand betting on the pair plus. I hit 8,9,10 of diamonds and won $600. I gave the dealer $100 and my girlfriend said, "lets get the hell outta here!"

They washed the desk or possibly brought in a new one, but the other deck is always being shuffled inside the auto shuffler. The next three hands I bet $25 on the pair plus only and the dealer was nice enough to turn my cards over as I was still blindly playing. First hand...2,5,K. So my wife now wants to leave and I say play two more; $20 on the pair plus and a $5 side bet on my hand for the dealer. This happens one more time with rags. Then on the third hand he turns my cards over and what do you know 8,9,10 of clubs (same cards as before different suite) but nonetheless another straight flush and $800 for us and a $200 tip for the dealers who then rang a bell and all dealers cheered and decided that I rocked.

We were then given free breakfast (steak and eggs was awesome) and I left with about $1550. Pretty fun for just learning.

Well, let me add to the stories here.

My wife likes to play blackjack. I like either holdem or three card. We are walking around looking for a table to sit together to play blackjack. She sits at a complete open table thinking its blackjack but its actually three card. I told her you could loss fast and lets find a blackjack table. She insists on learning, so cool. We are the only ones at the table and I am first out of the shoe. First hand I play 15 across and wife plays 5 across. Dealer wins with a straight, doesn't look good. Same bets, second hand I get a straight and wife gets a flush. Here's the kicker, the third hand we double our bets across 30 and 10. I get three of a kind, only looked at two cards to call, my wife hits straight flush! We lose to the dealer's Ks the next hand. The following hand I hit a straight and my wife hit three of a kind. The next hand I hit a straight flush. They did change cards twice, I never did see so many hands come out like that in a row. It was awesome. People starting gathering and getting on the table so we played two more hands with no success, so we went eat and left. Very good night.

Two nights later I went to a poker 250.00 tourney. It was the first hand, and Jake you will like this, pocket kings. The third better bets the pot, I'm in position and call the big blind also calls. Floop k,q,3. First out checks, I bet the pot, slow playing my trips, the big blind goes all in. I am thinking aces or pocket q. The player before me calls and I of course call. I have trip Ks, the big blind has pocket Qs to give him trips and the other guy had pocket As. First hand. and we have pocket aces, kings, and queens. the turn is a five, still looking good. The river is a Q. Wow have to leave after one hand. I didn't play holdem for almost three weeks after that beat!

Since we are talking about gambling stories I will share two of my favorites.

While I was in Vegas for my like 9th time. A buddy and I had a deal about going to Vegas, that we would only have one night towards getting shit face. Because lets be honest, most of the time drinking and gambling do not mix well together. The casinos know this too, which is why they offer free drinks while gambling. Any how, after a day of playing some holdem, we decided to call it a night and start our drinking day. So we went, to the store got a shit load of beer and went back to the hotel and started drinking a bit. We both decided that we wanted to go downtown and check out the light show as well as the nascar hotel. So, I left everything but my license and about 50 bucks worth of cash for transportation and more beer. We did this just in case we got the urge to gamble. Long story short, we got shit face. I go take a piss at lady luck, come back out and see my buddy on the roulette table. I was like WTF, thought we had a deal. He was like fuck that and gave me 100 bucks to go gamble myself. I was like alright, and started playing blackjack. End up winning about 600 bucks that night, I was so hammered. Moral of the story, that 600 bucks is what made me break even for the whole trip. Go figure, when I am focusing and stober I fail, but when I am hammered and drunk I win 600 bucks.

Story two, about 3 years ago, I went to Jacksonville Florida over X-mas. I have family down there. My uncle and I went to a poker site and started playing. Heres the meat of the story. The casino called for last call. Meaning this would be the last hand of the night. I was making out alright, up around 200 bucks in a 2/4 table (limit). Well when I got my 2 pocket cards I got the rockets. I raise the limit, goes around 3 people in the hand, flop comes I trip my ace. But I was really worried about a Flush draw. So I raised it up to try to push everyone out, Well one person folded and 2 call. Turn comes its another ace, and the suit that an person would of needed for a flush. So I got the nuts, raise raise, Both people call and call. When everyone fliped over their cards. The one dude had a flush the other dude had a straight, and I had the Quad A's. One hand alone racked in about 600+ on a 2/4 limit game. WOW, I gave the dealer a nice 25 bucks for good dealing haha.

Edit: 4 to A thank Jake

You mean quad A's. ;)

I hate having hooks the most!

Rich

I hardly play them if there is a lot of action in front of me pre-flop. I may see the flop, but I know before I do that I'm probably trying to suckout and hit my 2-outer.

JJ is one of the hardest hands to learn how to play, and it's the reason a lot of newer poker players meet their demise.

I was playing 1/2 No limit at Mohegan on friday. Had a good run. There was a guy at the table that had quad 10s and only won 50 or so. What a hand to waste.
