The land of Zion is safe, at least for another year. Yesterday the Utah State Legislature voted down (16-13) a bill that would have banned smoking in bars and clubs. It's probably only a matter of time but it's great news nonetheless. I can't wait to taunt my anti-smoking friends :D

Wow, the Mormon-taliban didn't step on the rights of the minority in that state like they do on just about every other issue. :0 :0 :0 :0 I'm floored.....just in shock.

From what I understand, these types of bans are crippling business's in New York. Can you imagine a bar without smokers? The two go hand in hand. If there's one place that any normal person would EXPECT to have to deal with smoke, it's in a bar or nightclub! DUH!
I guess I have some bias of course, but if people don't want to be surrounded with smoke, then THEY should choose not go in there!

These bar owners have sunk their life savings into the American dream, and have paid their taxes, and now the gov is gonna force them out of business. It's just not right. :angry2:

Yeah, in my state, the Lincoln city council heard from a waittress who stated that although her work environment is healthier, tips are down by half. They are looking to change the ban for those whose livelihoods depend upon the employee choosing to work where they do. Keno revenues?-through the floor. I'm thrilled, I hope they really get hit hard. :thumbs:

so glad they never even tried to vote on a smoking ban in pennsylvania!

Except that 2 members of the committee switched their vote and the bill is alive again. :(

Workers' health my ass. If you're so worried about second hand smoke, you probably shouldn't be working in a bar or private club! :angry2:

Yep, and that hypocrite Rocky was probly involved in there somewhere too. POS was a chain smoker until a few years ago :angry:

The sons a bitches finally got their precious f'ing ban.

About SB19

If it gets final approval (it did), SB19 would
ban smoking in:

* Taverns
* Private clubs
* Country clubs
* Private schools
* Child care centers
* Fraternal clubs

Exempted from the ban are:

* Existing private clubs, taverns until 2009
Compromise on Rights

Aaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just under 3 years for me to convert my rec room into an illegal private smoking club. Civil disobedience!

That sucks, I feel sorry about the little kids in day care not being able to smoke!

All kidding aside this sucks, my brother-in-law lives in Utah and we visit him quite often and we go to several private clubs to drink and smoke so bummer. I guess I'll have to smoke outside when I'm in Utah.

I can find no mention of this in the article.

...in the state of Washington, the answer is "no". Not in ANY public place, nor within 25' of any doors of HVAC intakes.

Tavern / bar owners are taking a beating on this one.....hope it changes soon.

Good luck - B.B.S.

Craig - just make your stock room your personal smoking room. I didn't see mention about smoking in nutrition stores :laugh:

I know from personal experience there are places in NYC that are choosing to selectively enforce it. At a bar in the upper eastside you can go after 12:30 and little cups of water are delivered by the bartender/watress so you can smoke and ash. It is their practice to do this.
