Going to give homebrewing a try

Taste was good actually! Though obviously flat - but it was basically a decent first attempt at an amber I'd say.

The only disappointing thing was a sort of "mineral" taste. I'm hoping it goes away as the beer sits a bit longer, or maybe with bottle conditioning.

I ordered a water profile test from Ward Labs, so I'll wait till I see the results of that before brewing my next batch in case I need to adjust or use bottled next time.

Hopefully you only have to do addition and not subtraction on the water. Is this AG or Extract? It could be extract twang I suppose.

So anyway... everything looked good this morning when I checked on my brew. SG is at 1.012 (right where I was expecting).

In the fermenter:

Not carbed or cleared yet, but the color is about right:

SG? U mean F.G = Final Gravity?

I mean SG = Specific Gravity. It probably is the FG at this point if fermentation is complete, but I haven't re-checked it to see if it's still falling at all.

It's extract w/specialty grains.

It will taste a lot different once it's chilled and carbed. Age can make a beer taste a lot better as well. Save a few bottles and open them after 2-3 months.

I love brewing outside. There's a lot of down time just relaxing and watching the pot boil. Perfect time to sit around with friends, a drink, and a cigar.

Well, today is bottling day. A little short of the full 3 weeks in primary that I'd planned, but today is really the only day I'll have free to get it done. Pictures to follow.

Couldn't resist a little taste test. I put one of the bottles in the fridge yesterday and popped the top today (11 days in the bottle so far). It's very tasty, and actually carbed up quite well. Though it could still use some more time, I actually can't believe how good this turned out. (and that mineral taste it had earlier is completely gone)

OK, so now you are hooked. First brew is good, when can I do it again? and again?
Kegs are next, an dthen all grain welcome to another obsession :)
THe beer is cheap if you don't count all the money you spend on equipment. ;)

I have a completed one in the primary that I need to keg this weekend

Just an update... been drinking my beer basically every day, and the longer this sits, the better (and clearer) it gets!

And yay, my beer gets good head, lol
