Just to be clear, I will gladly give Tomlin a standing ovation when he comes to town because he was always a class act, a great motivator and a great relationship builder, a terrible head coach! He let the players do what they wanted and that's why there has been a discipline problem and Tomlin's team every year, Martavis Bryant, LeVeon Bell, Antonio Brown, Deante Johnson, George Pickens, DK Metcalf.
People who insist he is a great coach are either not aware of the facts or not willing to hear the facts. People think he had bad talent to work with and that is miles away from the truth. For example, in the decade from 2012 through 2021 the Steelers had more pro-bowl players and more pro-bowl appearances than any other team in the NFL with 20 and 51 respectively. In that decade Tomlin won a grand total of 3 playoff games. The team with the second most pro-bowl players and appearances 19 and 49, the Patriots, had 15 playoff wins and 3 super bowl titles. By comparison, the Ravens, who are in the same division, had 6 playoff wins and 1 super bowl title.
And things got worse after that! Tomlin had 5 playoff wins in his first 4 years (with Cowher's team) and 3 playoff wins in his last 14 years.
There are 4 facts showing he was a bad head coach for every fact that shows he was good. Consistently achieving average results with elite talent is just plain bad coaching.
