Well I got the letter from the VA saying my data was on the computer and hard drive that is missing! I wonder who has the computer and do they realize what they have? Only time will tell. :angry:
 
We'll all be getting those letters I guess. What a ridiculous thing for them to let happen.

I haven't gotten anything as of today but I expect to soon. If the theives don't know what they had they do now just because of the publicity.

I feel your pain, Anthony.

I just got a letter from the University of Delaware saying that their central records server was broken into in April and that SSN, drivers license numbers, DOB, etc were stolen.

What is this world coming too?

I'm of the firm opinion that the guy needs to be drawn and quartered for taking that HDD home.

Hopefully some kid took it and it now has his porn and mp3 collection on it.

Got mine yesterday as well Anthony, I say they should cut off the bastids nuts for taking the info home and then feeding them to him........
 
Yeah what really sucks for me is we are a two letter household. The Mrs. got her's yesterday and now we have to look at both our credit reports.
 
As stated earlier - hopefully some young punk just stole the computer not knowing what was on it - You would think info like that would need a password or two to get to.

Very sorry to hear that man. I will keep all of us in prayers that nothing adverse comes out of this, and that the jackass who thought it was a good idea to take this kind of information home with him truly gets what he is due.

Sorry Anthony, trying to throw a little humour at the situation. Hopefully nothing bad comes out of this for you and the mrs.!
 
My company had a laptop stolen last year with all our info in it (unencrypted), then just recently Office Max got tagged for keeping pin numbers when for debit card users...I had to get a new card from my bank because of that and then I found out that my VA info was on this stolen laptop.

I'm thinking I might as well take out a full-page add in the NYT posting my birth certificate and passport info!
 
That REALLY SUCKS!!!!

But you can do things now to prevent or reduce any damages. Change all your account numbers on everything.....it's a pain in the ASS but it may be worth it in the long run. Your bank(s) should have no problem doing this for ya.

I lost my wallet a while back (in a foreign country) and had to do that. My wife still brings it up now and again....."honey, you got your wallet?" :sign:

Anyway.....I hope and pray everyone will be okay in this matter.

We now know that many active and reserve servicemembers may be affected. Although there is no evidence that the data has been used illegally, all Soldiers should be extra vigilant with regard to their financial well-being.

You should closely monitor your personal financial affairs while the DoD, VA and the Military Services work in earnest to determine the details and impacts of the compromise. We ask that you carefully monitor your bank accounts, credit card accounts and any other financial accounts for suspicious activity. For more information on how to protect yourself, contact DoD's Military One Source at www.militaryonesource.com or 1-800-342-9647.

The Army will work to keep you informed and ensure that you are aware of the resources available to help deal with this issue.

I would suggest that everyone write to their respective state reps and congress people. Here in MN they just passed a law that allows everyone the option of "freezing" their credit so no new accounts can be opened in your name unless you contact the credit bureaus and have your account "thawed out". This also stops alot of "pre-approved" junk mail as no one is alllowed access to your credit report unless it is "thawed".

Sorry to hear about that. Better keep an eye on everything (credit card, bank, credit report etc.) for a while. Good luck.
