As you may have seen from my recent post, I just had a son Nov. 5th (a little early at 34 weeks and in the NICU), but today he got his endotracheal (breathing) tube out and made for a very very happy day.

However, yesterday and the day before were, for the most part, very worrisome for all the family. It was a fairly sad day with my son not making improvements and they wanted to try an additional dose of surfactant (which carries some risk) to improve his breathing. I think being a doctor makes it even worse for me because I know all the bad things that can happen and I'm helpless in regards to my new son.

However, yesterday evening I came home find a very nice surprise (cigar bomb) in my mailbox from NorCalCigarLover. It really helped to lift my day. Just wanted to publicly say thank you.

Both you and Swissy were very generous and gave me a really nice welcome to the board. Especially in the past few days it has been something extra nice during a tough time and I really do appreciate it. Hopefully, my son will be out of the ICU in a week and then I can really enjoy the new smokes!

Thank you,

Mark

Hey...
glad they came at a time you need to relax- my wife is a NICU nurse, and I worked there as well before becoming a fireman. Best wishes for you, your family and your son.

NorCalLoverDude, good play! MDW, keep us posted on your son...

Hang in there
Jim

You are all in my prayers. With children so much is out of our control. Remember no tv-too risque, teach him sign language early on to foster brain development and pre-verbal socialization and communication, only healthy organic home blended foods in the early years, keep him clean to pevent diseases, child proof the house and make him be confident.

or
play in the dirt with him and the rest will take care of itself.
Good luck

Amen! Nothing wrong with having rough and tumble kids in this day and age, God only knows the lawyers are trying their best to deball and declaw the citizens of the US of A.

First of all, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. A very good friend had his son about a year ago very, very premature, and spent about a month and a half between NICU and other hosital treatment. He is now a healthy, happy boy...I pray for at least as good for your son.

Yeah... there is that 1 or 2% :p JK !!

I know a few good lawyers personally. They are like a breath of fresh air in the outhouse.

And MDW I'd just like to add both my girls were born as small as your son.

My 15 year-old is now 6 foot tall and my 4 year-old is the biggest fire-ball you've ever met.

He is going to be just fine!

Hey Mark,

I'm glad I could help lift your spirits a bit in these trying times. Take care and my prayers are with you and your family.

My God-daughter was in the NICU and such for the first 3 months of her life due to many issues. I feel for ya and will keep you and yours in my thoughts.
Kudos to those BOTL from this board who took the time to help improve someone's day.

I was in engineering school, during the dead week before finals, when my oldest son (about three at the time) had to go into intensive care for a resperatory virus that basically prevented him from breathing. He was in an oxygen tent on stimulants for a week or so and it was very touch and go at times....I remember it very well; it was terrifying. I lost about 15 lbs. with lack of sleep and stress....

He's now 18, healthy as a horse, and knows everything..... :p

My best wishes and thoughts for you and your family during this time, MDW.

Regards - B.B.S.

I find it very reassuring to know that there are people out there like David. Good luck with the new addition to your family and rest well knowing your son is in the hearts and mind of others who care.
