How do YOU value aged/rare cigars?

This is a different question entirely, and the question the gentleman I was quoting was really asking. Well, technically two questions.

1: Is it morally acceptable to sell a cigar for greater than the initial price paid at a future date?

To that, I would say that yes, it is. It is morally acceptable to sell an item for any price you like, so long as no coercion is involved.

And 2: Is it acceptable to sell a cigar here on CigarPass for greater than the initial price paid?

To that question, I am not qualified to present an opinion.

The "golden rule" of CP is "thall shall not profit from a brother ". All good until the off shore cigar prices went full bozo. So, if I bought the box of CoRo's for $500 ($20 / stick) and the going rate at auction is $2500 ($100 / stick)....and if I offer them to CP at, say $75 a stick...am I profiting? That's the question. I don't have the answer. I've got some boxes I've thought about moving, but this discussion is exactly what I think about. The advantages of selling here is trusted folks who will enjoy the smokes vs. the hellscape of the auction market. I don't have the answer....but I'm listening.

I'll also add that of course, 10yo OpusX and Padron (and others) are clearly worth more than paid for at the time, but nothing is worth more than what someone is actually paying for the goods. Squishy, at best...

At the end of the day, I think most of us in this community know when someone is asking a fair price for something vs someone that is trying to profit from a sale. I also think that one of us would call it out if we thought that was the case. Not saying it’s wrong to profit, as it’s the American way, but it’s not in the spirt of this group. If someone wants to sell something here, when in doubt, ask in PM if it’s okay. If you don’t know who to ask, then posting a for sale thread is likely a bad idea to begin with. Personally, I would hate to miss out on an opportunity to purchase something that I desire because the price is different than it was 5, 10, or whatever years ago. I’d rather have the chance to make my own decision than to miss out. I’m confident in my ability to distinguish right from wrong and believe most here can too.

Not busting your balls, but IMHO some consideration of accrued value has to be made or the simple fact is sales of the really cool stuff could vanish from CP. Not good or bad, but it's practical. I'm as generous as the next guy, but giving $$$ away on a sale is kinda a tough sell. Good discussion, good to think about. I surely don't have all the answers

...oh, and to be clear, I'll buy every single vintage AC Cobra you bring me for $3800...today, cash....

If I find a ton of gold in your basement that was put there in 1970, I expect you to sell it to me at $35/ounce. John

Very similar to a discussion last fall, though that was in regard to ISOMs. I think the general consensus was that taking age, and pricing changes over time if applicable, into account is entirely reasonable. In my opinion it would be unreasonable to bar such a sale, the result being that such cigars will simply not be offered here and will instead be sold at other venues where the seller can ask a price that is fair to him.

I would prefer that the opportunity to buy aged cigars from a trusted brother be kept in this community. We've all been around the block, and most of us are pretty good at sniffing out a rat if there is one. (Some of the FOGs have a sixth sense, I swear!)
