how does fedex make money

i ordered something and here is the tracking info started in NY city then went to newark NJ then to jamacia NY then back to newark then to memphis TN and then back to Newark NJ hopefully it will make it to me tomorrow. :laugh: i live in Farmingdale NY about 30 miles from NYC crazy

My company did some consulting work at the Memphis facility about 5 years ago. They have a SPSS (Small Package Sort System) building that was built to weigh every package. I believe they said it cost $18M to build and that they expected to get a year and a half payoff via recovered revenue. Turns out it only took about six months to pay it off.

Sounds like the USPS too...can't understand why they keep raising the rates on their stamps. When I lived back in Wisconsin, I remember mailing a letter to a town 9 miles away. Instead of being delivered there, it first had to go to the "sorting facility" about 150 miles away, and then on to its destination.

I sent a package to Tsmckenney via USPS last week to MN. I live in West Virginia just below Maryland. Last I saw, it was at a sort facility in North Carolina.

Could not figure out for the life of me why it went so far South to only have to go back up North West above me again. The nearest sort facility is about forty five minutes from me in Baltimore.

I paid about $18 to have a special shower drain 2nd day aired to me from California by Fed Ex. I followed the tracking and they had it in my town the next business day in the early AM. Their tracking said package not scheduled for delivery and they held it for 1 more day because I didn't pay the almost $50 they wanted for overnight delivery. Ground shipping probably would have taken a week or more going across country.
