You hear all kinds of anecdotal sayings like "Fifty years ago you car's owners manual told you how to set the valve timing, today, it tells you not to drink the battery acid"

But here is a real life example of our stupidity as a society.

My washing machine shit the bed today so I went to a used appliance store to look at what they had to offer. They had a decent selection between $350 and $600 and as I browsed around I saw that the older machines were priced pretty high and the new-fangled machines were pretty low. When I asked why he said "nobody wants the newer machines because they don't use enough water to get clothes clean."

I had heard that the new "auto-sensing machines" were garbage but I didn't realize just how foolish society had become in this arena. Because some dipshits cried about wasting water we all have to accept that our clothes won't get clean. In fact, there is no such thing as "wasting water"; every drop of water used goes right back into our eco system so the idea of "saving water" is a complete fallacy anyway.

And by the way, using the new auto-sensing machine, I started a load and after 15-20 minutes I checked in on it ................... and half the clothes were still dry. 🤪

So now ................ I have to use the "deep wash" and "deep rinse" which makes the machine use 500% more water. Way to go dipshits!

Years ago when my dad bought his front load washer he was having that trouble. I did a little research and we ended up pulling the machine apart and I modded the pressure switch on the fill valve... it got nice and full after that!

And speaking of toilets... I put new toilets in when I bought my house a few years back... CA has some crazy laws - for water saving bascially the flapper in the tank sat on top of a column so that it wouldn't drain all the way. I was having none of that so I ordered some new parts from Ohio I think it was to retrofit mine to non-CA compliant. I participated in interstate commerce of illegal toilet parts! hahahaha!

The guy who delivered the fourth washer to our house of 25 years said 5 years is a good run these days.

The warden and I lived north of Boston in the '90s and our apartment had a Maytag from the '60s in it. It had three buttons for temperature and a dial to turn for time.

Our current washer has a water sensor and we don't have issues with clothes not being wet, but the Warden feels like she can now wash four items of clothes every night since she isn't using a ton of water.

How stupid have we become?

It's becAme. Not becOme. LMAO
Like the smarties that start a story with "I seen...."

We've graded society on such a curve that it's a flat line now. The lowest common denominator should have never approached zero.

Where did you go to school? 🤣

But you are correct that "I seen" is bad grammar

Got married in ‘95 and bought Maytag washer and dryer (prior to Whirlpool buyout). One or the other finally died in 2025. 30 years. New dryer is fine - fancy steam and crap we don’t know how to use. New (top load/no agitator/stainless) looks nice but doesn’t use enough freakin water or way too much as mentioned above, and has ruined several white or light colored shirts - you have to clean the WASHING machine every few washes…so dumb.

Speed Queen washers and dryers. I'm sure you can buy a older model washers and just replace the parts very inexpensive and so easy to replace I did the belt the water pump and some other stuff you just YouTube it parts are very inexpensive and always available.
