There was an old CP thread here that listed a whole bunch of styles and everyone's favorites. http://www.cigarpass.com/forumsipb/index.php?showtopic=55891
I really wanted to revisit this and see how what everyone liked now and how (if any) had changed.

* American Pale Ale: Founder's Pale Ale NOW Weyerbacher Harvest

* ESB: - NOW Yard's ESA on Cask
* Sweet Stout: Left Hand Milk Stout Voodoo Cowbell
* English Brown Ale: Smuttynose Old Dog Brown Ale SAME
* Oktoberfest: Brooklyn Brewery Oktoberfest NOW Great Lakes Oktoberfest
* Irish Dry Stout: Don't like this style at all, but if I had to choose: Moylan's SAME

Now I drink mainly what I brew, but I have shifted from liking huge beers to more balanced beers. My favorite brew is now Smuttynose Finest Kind IPA. I definitely drink more local stuff now too as I drink mainly Smuttynose, Troegs, and Weyerbacher if I'm buying commercially.

Can't wait to see other's lists.

So here are mine (yes, I'm actually still alive!). I'm not sure if all are due to a change in tastes, or just a discovery/appreciation of new & different beers, but here goes...
  • American Pale Ale: Great Lakes Burning River now Victory Headwaters Pale Ale
  • ESB: Yards ESA (on cask if I can find it) still the same
  • English Brown Ale: Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale stil the same because I don't drink many of these
  • Oktoberfest: Hacker-Pschorr (German); Pennichuck "Big O" (American) with the demise of Pennichuck it's now Ayinger Oktoberfest (German) and Sly Fox Oktoberfest (American)

  • Quad: Trappist Westvleteren 12 still the same
  • India Pale Ale: SUCH a tough category for a hophead...I'll give two; Bell's Two Hearted and Bear Republic Racer 5. The new Sierra Nevada Torpedo might overtake one of those, though. now Ballast Point Sculpin, Ithaca Flower Power and Southern Tier 2XIPA, though I'll never pass up Two Hearted on tap.
  • Imperial IPA: No fair! Too many to list, but some never-fails are: Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA, Victory Hop Wallop, Avery Maharajah, and anything from Deschutes. That's if you omit the "holy grails" like both Pliny's, HopSlam (which I don't care for), Surly Furious, Racer X, etc. this is a list that keeps growing, too...too many to list but I've really been enjoying Lagunitas Hop Stoopid
  • Scottish Ale: Oskar Blues Old Chub now Sly Fox Gang Aft Agley
  • Maibock: Victory St. Boisterous still the same
  • Doppelbock: Victory St. Victorious (American); Ayinger Celebrator (German) still the same

  • Vienna Lager: Sam Adams Boston Lager and Victory Lager are pretty interchangeable to me. still the same
  • American Amber/Red Ale: Troegs Nugget Nectar still the same...duh!
  • American Double/Russian Imperial Stout: Deschutes Abyss, Oskar Blues Ten Fidy, and Hoppin' Frog B.O.R.I.S. the Crusher Abyss has really risen to the top here for me, but the special Victory "Dark Intrigue" release last year was stunning

  • American Barleywine: Sierra Nevada Bigfoot & the new Troegs Flying Mouflan still the same
  • American Pale/Adjunct Lager: Yuengling Traditional, Straub, Reading Premium go ahead and laugh, but I'm enjoying the hell out of Narragansett this summer.

*American Barleywine: Avery Hog Heaven/Lefthand Oak Aged Widdershins(One of the most drinkable barleywines I have ever had)
*Eisbock: Kulmbacher Eisbock...This beer has to be one of my favorites period, especially on tap.
I have really gotten into more and more big beers. Russian/American Imperial stouts and Imperial/Double IPAs are some of my favorite styles. Then again, so are Quads and Belgian Strong Dark Ales

Also, I hate to be a beer snob there BlackCloud, but some of those styles are a bit off. :)

Not surprised that I have some styles off. I usually keep a mental track of what general style a beer is. To dissect it into more and more categories is a bit tedious, IMO. I'm no archaeologist.

What matters most is the beer is good!

Haha, I gotcha. I meant no offense of course.

I usually get a bit further into my interests than most people.

Heh, I like most of the lists. Definitely more local then expected although I don't know how much far and away stuff people get because NJ gets so much stuff from everywhere.

Nebraska gets a decent amount but we are missing a lot of different bigger craft brews that have either never distributed or have pulled out.

In the last year we have had these breweries pull out: Avery, Lefthand, and Flying Dog. Avery is a big loss IMO and Lefthand/FLying dog both have a few brews I enjoy.

I really really want Dogfish Head, Lagunitas, Stone, Sweetwater, Founders and Bells(Though we can get it in Council Bluffs) and Cigar City to come to Nebraska. I'd give my left arm for some 120 minute IPA and some more Burton Baton.

We are damn lucky to have some really good breweries right here in Nebraska though. NBC just started 4 years ago and already make some absolutely awesome beers. Their barrel aged reserve series is amazing. Lucky Bucket is another really new awesome brewery(Certified Evil is a 12% Belgian Strong Dark Ale that is unlike any other beer I have drank.) Some other good Nebraska Breweries are Empyrean, Thunderhead(Cornstalker is one of the few wheat beers I like, It's a delicious Dark wheat ale),Spilker Ales(Hopluia is one of my favorite IPAs) and Upstream makes some awesome stuff.
