Have you tried to pix message. I heard there is no Pix messaging on it. Also hows the battery life I heard its kinda low?
Battery life is actually quite fantastic, relatively speaking --
Apple claims “With 8 hours of talk time, and 24 hours of audio playback, iPhone’s battery life is longer than any other ‘Smartphone’ and even longer than most MP3 players,”
Which actually seems pretty accurate to me. One reviewer for Newsweek mentioned using it for 14 hours doing various things, and then it blinked out.
I would have gotten an iPhone regardless, because I need one for R&D purposes at work, so I wasn't rushing out to get it just for bling or what have you. But I'm pleasantly surprised at what a nice phone it really is.
Believe me when I say that I've tried just about every smart phone under the sun.
It's the kind of thing that unless you actually try one and use it, you may not "get it" -- it's really quite a fantastic package.
Here's a quite run-down.
The good
-- Surprisingly small phone, not much bigger than a Motorola SLVR, but a little thicker
-- The screen is positively huge, and very, very vibrant
-- The touch-screen UI works beautifully
-- It manages to be extremely feature-full, yet easy to use
-- The "visual voicemail" feature is worth the price of admission alone for people who receive lots of messages, and need to prioritize them. Basically, you don't just see "You have 3 Message" on the phone, you see a list of the names of people who called you, and the time. You can tap on any name in any order, and listen to the message... and use a jog-shuttle control to skip forward/backward in the message at any time. No more Listen/Delete/Save Listen/Delete Listen/Save just to get to the important message you need to hear.
-- The email works great, and the fact that it's a full-featured HTML email browser is quite nice
-- The web browser is the first web browser I've seen on any phone that I'd actually consider using for any length of time; it works quite well
-- It is definitely the best iPod that Apple has ever created, by far.
The bad
-- If you don't use Cingular (aka AT&T) as a carrier, you're out of luck for at least 2 years. You'll have to switch to their network, or not get an iPhone
-- The EDGE network is slow for data transmissions; web browsing is not quite as painful as I thought it'd be, but fast it is not
-- Being able to work off of any WiFi network is a plus, but I'd have preferred to have high speed EVDO anywhere (coverage is still a problem in the USA, though)
-- The lack of an integrated GPS system is unfortunate; while Google Maps in the phone is very cool and handy, if a GPS were available, it'd just be fantastic
-- No real third party apps (yet) is a bummer
That's really it in a nutshell. There are many features available that I didn't mention, you can read about them here:

I had it up and running reading my email, synched with my contacts/calendar/bookmarks in about 15 minutes. I loaded it up with about 900 songs, and a full length movie (The Rock) and there's still room to spare on it.
All you do is plug it into the cradle, and it automatically charges and synchs everything with your computer.
