I second the IV sedation. Demand it. I only had to have one removed. He put in the IV, said "OK, after I inject this, in 10 seconds you'll be out". Last thing I remember is him saying that and waking up in the recovery room. Not even entirely sure how I got home (I don't remember my wife driving me home or walking up 3 flights of stairs). When I was finally coherent, I was in bed (hey, how did my clothes get off?)

Seriously, it's good stuff...

i 3rd the IV sedation. I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth when i was a kid, and like jingles said, the doc told me i would feel a little prick (i told him i didn't go that way) and once the mainline was established...boom out in under 3 sec. I awoke in recovery and went home and slept for a day...belive it or not i was eating a steak the next day...stiches and all. yes, i hate the dentist as much as the next guy, but it is a necessary evil. Insist on IV sedation, no need to be awake for these medieval procedures these days. Hope you feel better cheekie.

Ok-
So I went to the INITIAL consultation, pre op sorta thing- WOW!
I was in so much pain that taking the xrays and putting in a bite plate hurt to the point my eyes watered!
After discussing the surgery the slide over a clip board with the proposed cost- OMG!!! 1575.00!!
Whiskey tango foxtrot?!

Needless to say my eyes waterd again-

I walked out called my insurance and after some hagling, a doc swap, a few calls and 24 hours later I got a call back...$25 for the entire thing- IV SEDATION, 3 impacted removal, and bony extractions- all for the 25 specialist cost- W00T!
There is light at the end of the tunnel-
So Friday is the BIG DAY-

cool. good luck and have a nice sleep...remember to rinse with salt water to prevent dry socket! :D

My daughter just went through the surgery and made out fine. No pain medicine other than Motrin. A suggestion to help reduce the swelling is to use two long socks pined at the toes, fill each with a plastic bag filled with ice and wrap under chin up and around top of head and pin top as well. Try this for 20min on and 20 min off. Worked great for my wife son and daughter. Good luck :D

BTW, before they put you under, try not to think about the Seinfeld episode about him visiting the dentist and the rumours about what the destist does to his patients while under anasthetics. :0

I'll be there with her, and I am sure the doctor will know that I am there waiting for her.

Good luck Cheekie.

I had all four of mine out years ago and it went smoothly and I saw all sorts of amazing color waterfalls while under the IV. Afterwards, I didn't get Vicodin, I got Tylenol3. Codeine. Yum.

A classmate of mine had slightly worse luck. Being grad students, we don't exactly get primo insurance so when she went in for a root canal at the dental school, she was undermedicated (no IV) and was awake and aware when the student started drilling the tooth out. The pain was so bad she blacked out at least once. However, she got up and walked the heck out when the student stopped mid procedure to walk away and look for a supervisor. This was her first root canal. :0

She's under sedation right now. I'm out in the waiting right now with my fingers crossed.

I am finally home-
I have to say that the DR. I went to was awsome- although I woke up a few times, No pain while in the room,
I am really drugged still- just got more meds in me-
Emo- has been a freaking doll!! The best X a girl could have-
He was with me during the entire time- andhas taken such good care of me, including making me homemade mashed taters-
can hadly keep eyes open right now, but, I wanted to stop by and thank all of you guys for the well wishes :)

CHEEKS-Supersized :)

Glad to hear the good news Cheekie! Hope your recovery is a fast & painless one. I'll light one up for ya & hope all works out best. Must say I'm a bit disshelved myself reading all the "horror" posts as I'll be visiting my dentist in about 10 days (also due to leftover growing wisdom tooth).

Well she is up be-bopping along. The pain killers seem to be working ok. But the painwill come tomorrow after all the local has finally wore off and the swelling really sets in.

Emo

Glad to hear everything went well! Hang in there, by this time next week you'll never even know you had your teeth pulled. Third day is the worst. After that, it's all downhill. The more you rinse with warm saltwater the faster you'll heal. Sounds lame but it's actually true.

Hang in there. :)

- meds are kicking my arse! I made the mistake of taking the percoset prior to eating and whoa nelly- I had to hold the hair and the toilet- eeesh! Right now I have three best friends in this world - who have allowed me to keep what little sanity I have-
#1 RUM
#2 Emo - TRULY a good guy- he will make some girl "wery wery appie" ( that is what I currently sound like - To bad I might make her dissappear once he finds her ( lol) kidding!!!
#3 The Board- Cause in reading some of the post it has kept my mind off the pain and it has allowed me to point and giggle :)
