Oh my funky goodness.

Smells like bananas at a nail salon.
Tastes about the same. Lol

For over proof it isn't harsh. Nice warm velvety mouthfeel. A bit astringent, like camphor or something I used as a kid for bug bites or cuts.

Almost a cinnamon candy hotness/burn on the tongue.

Yes and honestly, didn't like it. From what I've ready (not experienced) the bottles pre-Sazerac were much better. Again, just what I've read. I'm not opposed to high $$$ bottles, but it's always nice to find a solid bottle for a decent price.

Has anyone/does anyone have a review/opinion on James E Pepper barrel proof?

Finally cracked my bottle. Sorry so slow Brandon! I like it. It’s quite hot for such a relatively low barrel proof. Flavors are semi-sweet. Hate to judge a bottle from just one pour but I’m not excited so far. It’s just ok. If it grows on me I will update.

Picked up a bottle of the Kirkland's Signature "Ready to Drink" Old Fashioned - 1L bottle for $17 at Costco over the weekend. Enjoyed it last night with the family during our Father's Day celebration. Out of the bottle - not bad! Thinking it's something great to have at parties during the summer - quick, easy and good! (picture is from the Costco website)

I have a bottle as well, I agree 100% with your opinion of it.

I've had a couple old fashioned's. One was made in a higher end bar, and was made with top shelf ingredients. (wasnt the first one) Several made with friends, and a couple I have tried to create. (I am no mixologist)

Once I had the one that was done 'correctly', it has been a mission to to find either somewhere locally (and there hasnt been a place yet), or my trial-and-error attempts, to recreate this drink.

I love the taste of these. I'm tempted to try this from kirkland....but honestly, I am not sure that my local costco carries it....not that I ever looked, but I live in PA....which is terribly regulated on who/where can sell/serve alcohol....
