Of course it's Memorial Day weekend, and a time where we all need to remember the brave men and women in the armed services that sacrificed it all for our freedoms. With a son that's active duty in the USMC and two other family members that served, it's an observance we take very seriously. The Marine and I will spend some "quality time" on Skype later today, making faces at each other. You bet I'm looking forward to that.

Having said that, Mom nature is being a crabby old bitch so far this weekend and it's raining cats, dogs, cattle, maybe even an elephant or two. I was thinking about the AM smoke and decided to dig around a bit in the humidor and smoke the good stuff. It then dawned on me - that's what I'm going to do all weekend. Sticks that were gifted or special that "you'd been saving" count double. I'm kicking it off with a Perfecxion No.5 from 2008. Later today, I'm going to get into an Anejo 49 that was part of a split from '06 that my good friend Louie DeVito and I did. That was the first interaction I had with anyone from Cigar Pass, and of course Lou and I went on to become good friends, despite the distance.

So, that's my suggestion to any of the brothers and sisters that are rained in this weekend.....smoke the good stuff, and reflect on the good times....and enjoy the three days off......

Cheers - B.B.S.

Right there with ya!! 'the boss' is going to be away at work all day, leaving me with the yard work. Perfect time for those great smokes I'm saving. Only difference is our weather is the best this weekend - probably better than any weekend all of last summer (last year sucked)

Not sure what all I have in my 'special occasion' box, but I know of one... a 30th Anni Cohiba!

Can't smoke in public places out here, but can't beat the weather. I'll get some good smokes in tomorrow :)

Tom, I'm happy to hear that your smokin' some of the box split stuff you and LouieD picked up in 06'. I'll bet that they're burning great right about now. Great weather here as well in New York and I'm smokin' a few of my favorites as well. I have the honor and privilege tomorrow to facilitate the Memorial Day Wreath laying ceremony at West Point. We'll have the whole WP Band, 21 cannon (75mm howitzers) salute, and the West Point community in observance. The guest speaker is the Garrison Commander and I'm sure that after his speech, there won't be a dry eye in the crowd.......

Sounds like a plan to me B.B.S.

A happy Memorial Day Weekend to everyone and of course, most importantly, a very special thank you to those who have and those are serving in the armed forces. We are all blessed and thankful for your service.

Just got back from the Memorial Day Service at Flanders Field in Belgium, very moving....will smoke something good tomorrow for sure!

To all that have, do and will serve

You have my eternal gratitude.

Tim, I have not thought of that poem in eons, but I'm sure the ceremony was super special. As B.B.S said, hats of to those currently serving and to those no longer with us, you are in our memories and not forgotten.

** In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Every soldier buried remains on Active Duty. It is their mission to remind us of our history and our legacy.
Every time we fail to honor them, it is a day with a purpose, a day with out a mission to accomplish.

Every Soldier deserves a mission.

Tim

Just returned from the Memorial Day Service in our town. Great speaches, 21 gun salute, and a wreath was place in the Red River honoring the Veterans. I was out on the pontoon yesterday fishing. That is one of the best spots to light up a stick!

So far I've enjoyed 2 2005 RASCC's while working on the Audi. It wasn't as hard as I thought to swap out the busted one-way intake check valves.

Very emotion provoking poem, thank you for that. My uncle served in Vietnam (forever damaged by agent orange), and my great great grandfather also served years and years ago. I still have his powder horn. Thanks to those that served and still serve this great nation.

I didn't have the opportunity to go to any services today, there weren't any close to the town I live in (I think the closest one was like 2 hours away). I will be smoking a good one tonight in honor of all those that have fallen in the line of duty. For all of the people that are currently active, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you do, and putting your lives on the line day after day to keep us safe.

I've been working on the house all day but found a few hours today to enjoy the weather and am finishing off a nice my farther right now. Yum.

Our son is coming home from Oman and is somewhere in Europe. Smoked a Behike for breakfast and a friend and I each had another one (54) on duty.
A quiet Memorial Day, thanks goes out to all who gave themselves for us to have peace.

Smoked a RASS while grilling and chillin at Camp Darby in Italy.

Had to put it down for a few minutes while the Honor Guard returned the Colors to Full Mast before lowering them for Retreat.
Very somber moment.
