Hey guys.

I was wondering what kind of cigars you guys serve your moochers. With me being at college, I have a LOT of friends that mooch gars off me. I usually give them premium cigars, because that is all I smoke! What kind of Mooch gar do you guys recommend. I may purchase a bundle of CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP mild smokes...and i'm wondering which you guys suggest. I also dont want cigars that will fall apart on them..I do want them to get a hand rolled experience, but just not at the expense of my 5vegas cigars. Also, I tend to LOVE connies, so if I purchase a bundle of those....they're doomed to be mine forever! LOL.

Thanks for all of your thoughts/suggestions!

I just had my first Connie today and that's what I was going to suggest...at 97 cents a pop, I don't know what would be better for less money...but I'm still a noob so I will most likely be corrected.

I only give out the best. I do make some exceptions on who it is. Like I will stock some Drew Estate for a guy that just wants some yard gars to smoke. He lets me know in advance if he is looking for a premium or just a yard cigar. But he helps me out with working on my car and what not so I feel its a good trade off. But he also donates for cigars so I let him know whats what. Others, like I said...only the best. I hate giving out something I myself wouldn't smoke. And yes, that means my Opus is given out as much as I smoke them.

I only give what I would smoke to someone I know who smokes cigars..... If I know that they don't really smoke cigars, they get something that I wouldn't really smoke. Except, I will give out some Connies #9.... really good for the price

It really depends.

I'm not going to give a $10-15 cigar or ISOM to several guys who won't know the difference and may puke from it (it's happened). So I usually keep a small selection of cigars that are cheap and I typically enjoy. These used to be Rosa Cuba but it's going to be Punch Corona as it isn't heavy but also quite tasty. I'll also give out more expensive cigars that I can readily find (Gurkhas).

If I think someone will legitimately enjoy the cigar and wants to really experience it, I'll gladly hand out a Maduro Hemingway / ISOM (as I did at the Super Bowl).

I wish I could afford to give out and only smoke the things I like the absolute best! By the summer, hopefully I'll have trained my palette a little more, tasted more cigars, and I'll be ready to buy a box of what I like the best (currently Hemingway Maduro Signature). I'm still trying a lot of different cigars to find out what I exactly like!

Thanks guys for your responses so far! Normally I know better not to give out "crap" cigars, but they do cost me money, and I am in college. Also, I'm usually hooking someone up with a cigar, about every week or so. Doesnt seem like a huge deal, and its not...but i'd like to hold onto the smokes that I enjoy for me if they are new to the cigar world. I'm thinking about maybe just getting 2 bundles of Connies...one for me..and half for me ;) :whistling: ! keep the ideas flowing though!!! Thank you guys!

I don't get too many moochers this way so when I do give out sticks, I give out those cigars that I'd smoke myself. I also tend to give out or share those sticks that I've tried and don't care for. When I do this, I mention that these are not rockets, just not to my taste.

Wilkey

I keep Connies, Rolys and / or Flor de Oliva in the Coolerdor for yard gars or as give aways for people (non-cigar smokers) who drop in and ask for a smoke.

If it's someone who I know smokes and I know will enjoy it, they have their choice out of the Humi. That being said, that humi DOES NOT contain large Opus, Anejos, the few Davidoff etc, in other words, the smokes I consider Super Premiums.

I don't hang with moochers. I share with my friends what ever I smoke . I have been to some herfs where some people seem to be there to get good cigars and hand out marginal ones. When I was in college people used to mooch my beer and pizza so I started ordering my Pizza with Anchovies and by quarts of beer and drink from the bottle. One of my friends pulled a switch on a moocher he was tired of. He put a ISOM band on a really cheap look a like. The mooch said it was the best cigar he ever had.

Yeah, I get a lot of moochers especially drunks who wanna smoke a cigar so I just buy bundled stuff like connies or famous 3000’s to keep on had. I save the good stuff for people who I know will enjoy them.

I have a moocher pal, he is just starting out and insists on smoking only ISOM's, claims he has had every cohiba made and can tell the diff's in all of them (ya, give me a break). Well, i tried an experiment one evening he was over, I placed an old Vegas Robina band onto a bundle smoke (yard gar) and handed it to him. His eyes lit up like a kid on Xmas morning, he fired it up, and told me it was the greatest ISOM he had ever smoked . I would call the experiment a complete success

What I seem to do is offer something to the person, one step above what they are currently happy smoking. So my friends who don't care what they smoke (if it came from a gas station, etc.), I usually will pass them a stick from a sampler I bought, perhaps from one of the $9.95 for 4 stick specials that companies like Altadis run. They are pleased with that. Now, if I have a friend who smokes decent sticks, then I will try to hook them up with a more premium smoke. I also like to hook people up with something they have not smoked before. While Torano's & Patel's are very popular smokes, very few of my friends have ever had these smokes.

That is how I see it, but then again, I would never consider any of my friends moochers. I find myself offering more than I find people accepting.

I only keep in stock sticks that I smoke myself and I don't have too many moochers come around so when they do, I'll offer them what I feel like smoking at that time or a mild/light-bodied ISOM.

Depends on the person for me. If they are someone who has done me a favor, will truly appreciate the cigar, will share his cigars with me if possible, etc., I offer them something good. People who don't really care/don't know the difference between one cigar and another, I'll give them something cheaper, a CAO, etc. Just depends. "Mooch's" get cheaper sticks and people who want to enjoy a cigar with me get nicer ones.

ACIDS, Grenadiers, Backwoods. Usually cures the mooching habit.

I have bought a few bargain sticks to try, and they are great for everyday, or if someone wants to smoke one. The Padron 2000s are great and reasonably priced. It just like buying a friend a drink. Same price.

I don't give anything to moochers. F'em.

I always offer to share with someone if I am going to fire one up. If they accept they get something I would smoke. I'll share "special" sticks with those friends who will appreciate them, but I haven't got many of those types of friends.

If I am with someone that needs an "introduction" into cigar smoking, they get something that is mild and flavorful.

I don't consider either of these situations mooching. Moochers get nothing from me.

That's hilarious!

For me, there are different categories of "moochers".

Friends/BOTL's at work: Not the guys who smoke regularly, but folks who cannot smoke at home for various reasons or are extremely light volume smokers. These people get to share excellent smokes from me which are usually something they have not had before. The "price" is they are required to discuss their tasting with me.

Friends of Friends: For example, some of my son's college fraternity brothers. Very nice young men, but usually have no clue about much of anything except getting drunk and chasing girls. These guys get inexpensive mild cigars like JR Special Jamicans or Victor Sinclair. Usually give them the torpedos and keep the coronas for myself.

True moochers: Know nothing about cigars, NEVER bought one except at a drug store or gas station, and are usually annoying enough that I just want them to go away..but not that I do not like them. These guys get whatever I have laying around (expensive or not) that I just don't care for. I guess I feel better about not wasting cigars if I give the ones I don't like to the true mooches.

Braggarts: This is a special class that I reserve my strongest (nic) smokes for. These are the "if it can be lit I'll smoke it" folks. I think I was this category back in the day.... For me, the cost of the smoke for these guys does not matter. What matters is the chance to turn them green. LOL

Of course, I do not consider true BOTL's to be mooches whatsoever and for those men my humidor is always open. Besides, some of those smokes in there came from them!!!

Cheers,
antaean
