Work has become comically busy over the past two days. As project manager I have to make sure that the impossible deadlines get met, and all our deals go down w/o a hitch. As inventory control manager I have to assure the fulfillment of these promises doesn’t effect our inventory and accounting.

September 1st is my deadline. That Friday I will either be triumphant and the hero, or dead.

I fully intend to be the hero that makes everything go down w/o a hitch.
I then intend to smoke something really special.
I just have no ideas what I should pick. I want something to really look forward to, and push me through the tough week I’ve got ahead of me. Currently I’m thinking an Anejo 50 or a Raphael Gonzales I’ve got resting, but I would love some suggestions for a really special smoke to celebrate my (hopefully) triumphant conquering of my jobs cruelest week.

September first is also the day my wife’s new promotion takes effect, so there is yet another reason to celebrate.

Thanks guys!

Hmm,

What else you got? If you're going to drink while you celebrate with that Rafael Gonzalez, you might find it too mild. The Añejo is always a good smoke.

 Wilkey doesn't like the selection.

Special means just that - special. Something like a GOF, Davidoff 100th Anniversary.

What else you got?

Nothing much in the "special" department...
A VSG Beli that would be my first VSG and A Gurkha Centurion XX perfecto.
Those are the "top shelf" items in my humi (apart from the R. Gonzales and the Anejo)

But really i'm looking to procure something new and exciting.

There is a B&M close by that has Opus, and when you buy them they give you a free tube of lube (if you catch my drift.) I may put up with the gouge this time though... I haven't smoked an Opus since '98.

I also heard a rumor that Fetterjon scored an ESG at a B&M that is about 50 miles from my house... Maybe I'll make that trek this weekend...

I would go with a Padron 40th anniversary - maduro if you can find it, but the natties are good too! That's always my "special occasion" choice. If you want to spend less, I also recommend the PAM or PAN Exclusivo.

But then again, I've been a Padron whore lately.

Oops,

Sorry cuppajack. I didn't mean to imply that your selection was "not special enough." I honestly wanted to hear what else you might be stocking. It was not my intention to belittle your stash. The reason I asked is because I also select cigars based on the occasion.

For the rare, aged, or otherwise unique cigars, I almost always smoke by myself so that I can focus on the experience of the cigar itself without distraction. In these instances, the cigar comes first...it IS the experience.

When I have special social occasions, then I select something that is good, assertive, and well-behaved. Ashton VSG, Fuente, OpusX, Añejo, Padron 64, Padron 26, Tatuaje, and mid-quality or better Habanos fit the bill. Why? Because they tolerate a bit of under and oversmoking abuse, they have prominent flavors that persist over food, drink and conversation and because I won't be kicking myself if I drop it in a Mai Tai. In these situations, the cigar is an accompaniment to the celebration.

No worries! That is not at all how I took it!
Since I've only been feverishly buying stock for about a month I've been focusing more on "everyday" smokes, and find my humi a little lacking in those special-reserve sticks that we all like to have...

The Padron Anniversary is a good suggestion! I haven't had one of those since the late 90s either...

I have always smoked the VSG Torpedo for special occasions. Never had anything but a wonderful smoke. I also like the La Aurora Perfecto in the Ruby tube (Maduro). I also have a couple of Ashton ESGs that I am saving for a special occasion, but I can't say what they are like.

Good luck on your projects.

I'm a big fan of Padron 1964 or Padron 1926 if you're going for really special. In the future if I can find it might go for Opus X.

There are a whole bunch of great smokes out there and you're only limited by time and budget. An Edicion de Silvo en cedro, aforementioned Padrons or Opus; Davidoff, or something from offshore will all be good.

That's cool, cuppa.

Tell ya what, PM me your address and I'll send you some Aniversarios and Serie 1926, etc. so that you'll be properly prepared for this and the next few special occasions. :D

Hell, I might even toss in a couple of Moonies. They're not a bad as some people people make them out to be. Honest! ;)

Wilkey,

Awesome gesture there!
Of course I expect this kind of behaviour from you!

Well, what else could I do? I've been smoking other things lately and so my poor neglected Padron have just been sitting there month after month, year after year... :(

If the moontrance didn't taste so great out of the box, maybe we'd all get around to the 1926's more often :sign:
