So, I was at a B&M in downtown L.A. yesterday to pick up a couple sticks to enjoy after work, and I stumbled across something interesting. I had settled on getting a couple NUB Habano 358's, and upon reaching into the box clearly marked, "NUB Habano", I pulled out two cigars of which one had a NUB Habano band, and the other had a band that looked exactly like the Habano band except it said, "Sungrown" on it. Is this a misprint? I am almost positive I haven't seen a NUB Sungrown before. The cigar is also a shade darker than the Habanos were, which leads me to believe it is indeed a sungrown wrapper....however, on googling I cant find a single vendor that sells these clearly marked Sungrown. The most I can find is a few that say Habano Sungrown in the title of the item, but the actual picture is of a Habano. The NUB website also doesn't show any sungrown variety, though I know it doesn't show the Maduro coming out soon, so is it possible that this was an accident? Perhaps a few of these were put in the box of Habanos by accident due to the similarity of the band, and they are pre-release?

PICTURE/LINK EDITED!!

Box of Habanos appear to show a 'SUN GROWN' label. New labeling for the Habano?

That is possible! The one I picked up was mixed in with others labled Habano in a box, there were maybe four more out of the box that were also labeled Sungrown.

*Edit* Fixed an error!

Yeah, I am sorry to be the one to have to tell you this, but I think you've been had. With the popularity of the nubs there is an ever increasing supply of knockoffs coming into the country. Your band and wrapper looks good, but the counterfeiter didn't do enough research on the band and must have put sungrown in under the nub. Also I think that the gold color is slightly off and it doesn't look like the "Nub" is raised enough??

???

"The "Sun Grown" is the same thing as the Nub Habano here in the states. The wrapper on the Habano is a sun grown habano."- Ian

When I compared a Habano band to this one, it is identical, down to the embossing. I doubt this is a knockoff.

^ That is likely the explanation. I still am curious why I have never seen this before though.

I'm going to a Pepin event on Thursday this week, I believe the rep also does NUB, I'll ask and see what he says.

Note to self, sarcasm wasted.

Whew... glad somebody picked up on it... Guess it just sounded better as I was typing it out then how it was taken when it was read.

If anyone around here would know, it would be Ian. If you still have questions, why not shoot him a PM with the questions and maybe a link to the thread so he can answer them? He is an Oliva rep.

Edited my quote. I didn't notice the link.

Uhhh, excuse me? Twizz and CRQuarto you need to edit your posts above and remove the link as well as the photo that is hosted at that store. We do not link to or post pictures linked to Cuban cigar retailers.

Got it Gonz, very sorry about that. I didn't even put 2 and 2 together, nor look at the name of the retailer (I know who they are).

Glad I was on here and saw it, or else it would have been a day before I could have edited. PMs come to my email.

Sorry

It's not a big deal, the trick will be to get CRQuarto to edit his quote too!

Done, sir, sorry, I actually didn't look at anything other than the image itself. :(

D'oh!

Yeah, I screwed that one up, heh...normally sarcasm is not wasted on me, believe it! :sign:
