Hey everybody!

Headed to NYC next week, specifically Union Square in Manhattan, for work. Staying local, and wanted to get a feeler out for places to hang out, eat, smoke, etc, when I'm not working at night. I will be in town the 10th-12th. Maybe some people want to meet up for a smoke or two? Any info or suggestions would be great, as I have never been to NY. Thanks!

right in Union Square is a restaurant called Blue Water Grill, this is a first class seafood place. Union Square is full of great places to hang.

Here's is a post by Geoffrie, a NYC resident and CP member as posted on another board:

Club Macanudo
http://www.clubmacanudo.com/
63rd between Park and Madison
Nice place, a bit upscale but now allowing neat jeans in. But still no sneakers or tshirts Cutting fee and minimum at a table ($20 together) - no cutting fee at the bar. A bit stuffy (commenting about the crowd) but could be the best ventialtion in town. Decent food - tuna tartare is a favorite. (Steaks are good too) - nothings cheap.

Carnegie Club
http://www.hospitalityholdings.com/
56th off of 7th
Akin to ClubMac but not as stuffy (a comment about the crowd). Larger bar - good seating available around. $10 cutting fee or buy the house robusto. Same dress code. Decent bar food. Free jazz band on Friday and well-known Sinatra band on Saturday.

Bar & Books
http://www.barandbooks.cz/
Three locations but you can only smoke at two.
1) Lexington & 73rd: No jeans. Similar UES crown like ClubMac. Not unlike a small Eurpopean hotel bar ... small bar inthe bar ... a bunch of two-tops and some four-tops closer to the front.
2) Hudson between Horatio and Jane: Welcome to the West Village ... a much more casual bar. Dress code is more casual as is the crowd. Jeans... sneakers ... whatever ... but you must wear cloths else they won't let you in (don't ask me how I know this.)
nb: Both have an exceptional scotch list and also make very good cocktails. Food is feh (bar pizza is ok). A $5 cutting fee is added to your bill.

Circa Tabac

32 Watts Street (West side just above Canal)
Big on cigarettes too but very cigar friendly. Small cuttign fee - cannot remember. Also a casual crowd and casual dress. Small bar (6-9 seats?) but lots of tables. Food is ok (steak sammich).

Merchants
http://www.merchantsny.com/east/east_home.php
1st Avenue & 62nd
More of a lounge feel than a bar. Comfortable seating. Low ceiling - can get a bit smokey sometimes. Better than average food. A younger UES crowd than ClubMac or Lex B&B. Can get crowded by 8pm.

These are just Manhattan places that I am familiar with.

I've left off some places that are members only (e.g., Grand Havana) ... or some places that are cigar shops that have a byob policy like
CigarInn on 2nd & 53rd is a great place to hang out.
Velvet Cigar Lounge on 7th Street off of 1st Avenue.
Madison Cigar Lounge on 118th and Madison

And quick note for the coolest place in Brooklyn ... Dave's!!!!

No places to smoke though in union sq. Indoors you'll be looking at club macanudo, merchants east, carnegie club. And then there are various smoke shops to smoke at: davidoffs, cigar inn, nat sherman, de la concha.

Plenty of people to hang out with too, that's for sure, those though NY'ers sure are a lousy bunch :p

I should add that Geoffrie and I are good friends and I highly recommend Carnegie Club.

Thanks for that great post Bobby. I just moved to the area and didn't know such places existed here.

I enjoyed the Carnegie club a few years back while visiting. Nice place and the waitress was hot.
