After the conclusion of my first pass I just had a comment I had to throw out there. As I was checking my inventory I realized that a certain cigar was missing from my pass and it was not listed in anyone's takes. After discussing this with a few others I have learned that this is not an uncommon occurrence. I was ready to chalk it up to the fact that some people may have misplaced a cigar or two but it seems very interesting that the cigars missing were usually of high quality.

This is NOT an accusation!

I am merely making a point. A lot of what we do here on CP requires a lot of trust. I think it flat out sucks that someone who goes through the trouble setting up a pass for everyone to play has to deal with stuff like that. In my case it was one cigar. In others , it was more.

This is a call to everyone who participates in a pass to please be careful. Please make sure you are taking what you say you are taking and placing all the others back in the pass. I don't think that is too much to ask of anyone. Again, This is not an accusation just something that I felt should be said for everyone's benefit who particiates in a pass.

And this is why we are selective in whom we allow in a pass. If you can figure out where the stick went I'm sure we would all like to know.

That sucks!!!!!!!!   I'm very unhappy to find out this is a regular occurance. Sorry for your loss Ric. Unbelievable.

Hi Ric,

You gave me an idea. From this point on, if I'm involved in a pass, I will do an inventory of what I receive vs. the put/take list and will inform the originator of the pass of any discrepancies via PM.

For the rest of the CigarPass community, this might be a good general rule or request for future passes, this way everyone involved in the pass will realize that participants will be performing "audits" as the pass moves along.

It will catch honest mistakes and the intentional ones as well.

I would guess (or hope??) that who ever finds the stick in question would send it back to you as I would guess (or hope??) that it was indeed an honest mistake.

I totally agree with doing an inventory, but let's just agree that we will try to handle it with the person whom had the pass last before you via PM, so that if there was an honest mistake it can be sorted out before dragging someone's name through the dirt.

Just a simple suggestion.

Good ideas Coventrycat and ALostTexan.

I haven't been involved in a pass yet but I've been following a few of them and would like to join one soon. I definitely agree that for the sake of keeping track of the many cigars changing hands in a pass, an inventory should be done by each person. I don't think anyone would be offended by the next person in a pass making sure all of the cigars are accounted for because if someone does make a honest mistake it would bring it to their attention so they could fix it instead of getting a bad reputation.

Some excellent suggestions. My concern is that with some of these huge passes it can be a bit of a daunting task to inventory but I guess it is something that should be done. The thought never even occurred to me until this thread that there could be a problem with this type of thing. Thinking more about it though I can see how an honest mistake could be made. I try to be extra careful but nobody is perfect. I sure hope the majority of these incidents were indeed honest mistakes.

I sure hope they are honest mistakes as well. I know I'm pretty sure I made a mistake on Daves recent pass. Fortunatly for me it was the other way. I had planned to take an Acid Def Sea and noted it as such everywhere. The day after the pass had gone I was looking for it everywhere and couldn't find it. My only guess is that it had been triple bagged for obvious reasons and I must have picked up and put it back in with the other bags of suplies going in. I thought I was super careful about keeping puts and takes seperate and such and I still lost one.

It can happen and hopefully thats all it is. I sure plan to make that asumption in any case if it ever does come up again.

I don't know what you guys are talking about - I steal premium cigars from passes all the time! ;)

ALostTexan's idea of contacting the person whom you received the box from is a better idea than mine.

Next time I do a pass with DaveWF, I'll drop an extra ISOM in there he can steal, it'll be tagged with "Dave steal THIS one" just to make sure.

but that's no fun. he'll enjoy it more if you
put"dave, please DON'T steal this one" :p

where's my spell check?!

Ric, I am sorry to hear that this has occured I truely believe that the members hear who do get involved in most passes are up and up guys and gals. We still need to take the necessary precautions to watch for those undesirables who want to take advantage of what is the utmost honor system.

I think calling our attention to this matter will just keep everyone on their toessies so we're looking out for each other.

and to forget DON'T STEAL THE SHARPIES

This is exactly what I did for the last pass that I participated in. Except, I did it to make sure that I hadn't stolen anything! :D Really, though, I wanted to make sure that I had put back everything that I wasn't claiming to take. It doesn't take much time so long as the cigar ID's are clearly labeled.

After this post I received a few PMs from some people wanting information about what exactly happened and wanting me to investigate further. Sooooo, here's the info:

The cigar in question is a Montecristo #4 (ISOM). Not the most expensive cigar in the world, but it definitely stuck out in this pass because of the limited number of ISOMs. I have PMd everyone involved in the pass and will post the results of who saw what here for those interested. So far I have a couple of responses, but in the act of fairness I will wait till everyone has responded.
