Problem with a Padron

Well, I was smoking a Padron palmas in my truck while working tonight and had a disastrous(sp?) problem. I lit up the stick, and immediately noticed a harshness that I haven't had before with these. There was also a strange bulge (about 1/16" to 1/8" in thickness) in the cigar about 1/4 inch above the burn line. Now for the kicker, that bulge moved up the cigar, always staying so far from the burn line. About 1 1/2 inches in, I got a HUGE metallic/skunky/gross taste and disgustedly pitched it out the window. Now, we all know that Padron is a very good manufacturer, and I'm sure that this cigar is an anomaly, but can someone please tell me WTF happened??? I'm sorry that I don't have any pictures, but I was driving at the time.

I've smoked a few Padrons that were harsh to very harsh near the beginning but never seen that bulge you described. IMO, the Padron regular series needs atleast a year of rest.

I'm thinking it must have been some giant tobacco parasite. If the bulge had reached your lips, it would have injected parasitic cysts into your lungs and turned you into a walking egg sac.

Sure would take some huevos for him to show his face in public after that.

only you :p :p

Sounds like it was really really wet.

Was it from your B&M or your Humi?

I'd check your RH% if it was from your Humi.

Should have dissected that gar...
I would have wanted to know what the hell I was smoking!
Moving lump sounds plain WEIRD!

Absolutely! No way I could let that cigar go without doing some surgery on it to determine what the hell that was. It may have been very interesting!

Ok,

Here's what the bulge most likely was.

With heavily box-pressed cigars such as Padron, Mayorga, etc. sometimes when you smoke them, the tobacco is warmed up as you smoke and thus it relaxes and expands. This causes the flat sides of the cigar to bulge out due to the force of expansion. But this is not confined to box-pressed cigars. Sometimes when you smoke a round cigar, the region just ahead of the burn front will appear to swell. Since the cigar is round to begin with, the effect is less noticeable than when a rectangular cigar goes circular in cross section.

I have not really paid enough attention to the occurrences to form an hypothesis as to the conditions that make this more or less pronounced.

DItto that. Especially if the cigar has a little too much moisture or is a bit green.

LMAO @ Wilkey and Zee.

I would have done some dissection as well, but sounds like a wet cigar to me.
