This is a classic robusto shape, 5x50, rolled for me at the Joya de Nicaragua factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, by their finest torcedors. The blend is Nicaraguan Habano Criollo wrapper over Indonesian Sumatra binder and Condega Ligero, Viso from Jalapa and Seco from Estelí. The draw is very much to my liking, and the cigar looks fantastic!
1/3: There is a dryness which I attribute to the Criollo wrapper. I get sweet hay/ sweet cream. Basically a dry, vegetal sweetness. Solidly medium strength.
2/3: The vegetal sweetness gently subsides over the course of the middle third. The strength picks up, and a saltiness component becomes more pronounced.
3/3: The strength drops back down to medium. The sweetness is gone while the salt is at a good level- not overpowering.
Final thoughts: This was a really well-constructed cigar. The next iteration, if I ever do this again, will have some tweaking to it. I am going to use this as a benchmark for all future reviews in this series for comparison purposes to see how I stack up to the other blenders.
