OK...
what's the best way you guys-n-gals peel your bands apart? not getting them off the cigar (I can manage that) but what's the best way to straighten them out? I want to start collecting them to put on the inside of my humidor's door. When I try to manually peel them apart, the glue sometimes seperates the layers of paper and they look not as nice as I'd like. I want to keep them as clean and original as possible, as if the band had never been used, with no paper residue on top.

steaming them like an envelope seal? slight soak spray with water? some other magical trick??

I build model R/C boats, so I keep a sharp Xacto handy. Surgery has beent he option often. I expect you will still suffer casualties, bands too damaged to use. Are you particular about whos bands you use? That is, would you prefer them to be your trophies, or can we stoke your collection?

I just peel like you said and if it starts to tear i cut it with my knife. Seems to work like a charm and doesnt seem to look bad.

Being in the stamp business, I sometimes have to get stamps off of a envelope or piece of paper.
You can try soaking the band in warm water for a couple minutes (will break down the glue), then carefully peel it apart, then stick it in a phone book for a day or two, to dry it and straighten it out.
Put some weights on top of the phone book.

Someone once told me that water trick and it works like a charm. I put the band in a shot galss with water for a little bit. Then I peel it apart no problem. Then all you have to do is let it sit in a book or somewhere flat until it dries. Perfect everytime.

So, the water does not damage the band? I'm gonna have to try that. Until now, it's been peel and a prayer... sometimes it works but just as often does not.

It shouldn't, if its good enough for $1000 stamps, then it should be ok for a cigar band. I do it all the time. :D

thanks for the info! I have also been a peel and pray kind-a-guy. I have started leaving them on as I smoke so the heat losens them up and that has seemed to help. But I am giong to try to just pull them off and put them in some water. THanks

Brandon

thanks gang- that's what I was looking for!

And NullSmurf- I am only doing my own, as it's a limited amount of space... but I think I got enough o make it worthwhile ;)
