question about lighting cigars

Always toast for an even burn. Plus it adds another ritual which is always good. But as you can see we tolerate diversity here...The cardinal rule in cigar smoking is what you like is best.

I never toasted my cigars even before I read the article, but I suspect Mr. Rothman has smoked waaaaay more cigars than I have.

I think it's neither necessary or enjoyable....however like hv said to each his own.

I've always been a toaster, never knew why I was doing it. Just following the lead of Sr BOTLS when smoking together. It makes sense that it will help the cigar burn a more consistent.

It makes for a larger cherry.

My personal preference is to toast and light with the flame held away. I have found that the first draw has a smoother taste and flavor IMHO. I also believe in the ritual aspect as part of my enjoyment.

I always toast mine too. It really ticks me off when the darn thing gets stuck in there and you have to turn it upside down to get it out. Burn crumbs all over the place. Anyone else have this problem?

WTH are you talking about getting stuck in there?

Sheesh Emo. He means the "toaster".

I think he was trying to make a joke :sign:

Do you put them in standing up, or laying on the side? What setting? Light/Med/Dark?

J/K I always toast the foot except in the case of small ring sizes.

I like to toast mine with a simple "Here's to a great smoke. May it please the palate of this simple minded bloke." :p

I always toast my cigars. Like AVB said, no need to make a big production out of it. A 5-10 toast is plenty. It does make for a better burn and easier light.

I toast but don't make a big production out of it. 5-10 seconds at most.

Same here. An even toasting gets the burn off to an even start. But, it's not a big production.

Heh maybe I’m the odd ball. I guess its where I get the stick from. I find my sticks from my humi fire up with out the need to toasting. I run at about 65%. The sticks at the shop I toast depending on the ring size. Never noticed much difference to be honest. IMO if it’s going to do what it wants to do. If its an even smoke it will correct its self. If its an uneven smoke it will burn uneven.

Are you John Madden? That was a Maddenism if I ever heard one! :sign:

I'm a toaster BTW.

Like most of you guys, I usually toast my cigars which ensures an even burn most of the time. However, if I have a small cigar or inexpensive one, I often just jack it up with my triple flame without toasting.
