Not sure why I'm doing this here, except that I like being part of this community, and today was a pretty big deal.
Quite a few months ago Maisey, one of my dogs held in "joint custody" by my ex-wife and I, was diagnosed with kidney failure. She had a long, slow decline, with some nice bounces back to feeling ok. It's been clear the last few days that she was feeling less happiness and more discomfort.
Today it was absolutely clear that the best thing for her was to help her on her way. Took her to the vet and saw her off to the great beyond
My parents, my fiance, my ex-wife and our other dog buried her at Mom and Dad's in the shade at the edge of a field. She took a coupla bones, a turkey feather, a hamburger and a RyJ Short Churchill (she used to sit with me on the porch sometimes while I smoked) along with her on her journey, wherever it may lead.
RIP little friend. I love you.
