Ripped off on E-bay

Any particular reason you wanted this specific model of a 3000w generator? There are plenty of 3000w generators out there that can be found for a fraction of this price like THIS ONE which costs less than $300.00. Shipping is around $90.00.

Dickson,
Did you use poopal?
You might be able to get some $ from them.
Did she have good feedback?
Sorry this happened !

This generator is extremely quiet. I camp alot so I can essentialy have it on after hours and it will not bother anyone.

As for posting the seller or the link to the auction, the former need not know the steps that are being taken to recover my loss. The latter was taken off once I reported the fraud. I do have the original link for any authourity that should ask for it.

I didn't use paypal so, I'm screwed there.

After all efforts have been exhausted using the right channels do not pan out. I'll be happy to post all info. This is rather embarrassing.

Don't worry about it being embarrassing..... like I said, it happened to a good friend of mine who is a NYC Detective... He also sent a MO for a laptop.... went to Maine and testified for the State AG.

I hope this goes that far.

Yeah I know those Honda "EU" generators are supposedly quiet, they claim the noise is 58 dB but even that cheapie I mentioned in my most recent post is only 67 dB which is louder but is it really THAT much louder?

Hi, Dickson! If your problem is not solved to your satisfaction, you might want to file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). They once helped me solve a problem that I had with an online seller (the seller would not ship the merchandise that they had already charged my credit card for). Please visit http://www.ic3.gov/. I wish you the best! Regards, knightlaird

Knightlaird,

Thank You so much. It seems that, that will cover every agency that needs to be notified. All I can do now is wait and see. Thank You all for your support and compassion. CP is the bomb!!!!!

Not wanting to be a smart ass or anything, but who takes a generator camping?

If you require that much electricity, it is not camping. :whistling:

Real men sleep on the ground and eat snakes when camping. ;)

There are many levels of camping. At 19 and in the Corps. I slept on the ground and ate monkey(Okinawa, Japan aka The Rock ). At 47 with a wife (Who has rheumatoid(sp) Arthritis and two attack and kill Yorkshire Terriers(Be careful Bilder). I must protect the other campers from the complaining and the ankle gnawers. After all, real men look out for their fellow man.

Well if you put it that way, I guess I should thank you. :D

Don't know about the police dep't...probably won't get you far. But, definitely take the time to fill out an on-line complaint form to the FTC E-Commerce dep't (see link below), and also report it on-line to your state attorney/attorney general (in both locations, yours and his). Attorney General, at least here in Florida (and a few other states I know of) takes these matters seriously and will address it.

Here's the link to file on-line with the FTC:

FTC Linky

Again, definitely report it to the Attorney General in both states. Usually you can do this on-line as well.

Good luck, and sorry that you have to deal with this.

Edited to add:

Here's the link to your CT Attorney General. Didn't read everything to see if you can file complaint online, but you can at least email them at the address listed on the site, and they'll help you from there or get you pointed in the appropriate direction.

CT AG

The FTC refers the complaint to the local PD (if they're a member) - so likely it will end up with the local PD. Plus - that site tracks multiple complaints for possible federal prosecution. It is definitely worth checking out... (www.ftc.gov)

I would not count out the local police - it varies from dept to dept, but more and more local PD's are jumping and and battling this type of crap. They have the resources if they're savvy enough...

Good luck!!!!

Not saying NOT to report to the local PD, but starting from all sides never hurts. Just put in my .02 in re the PD given my experiences with them in matters like these. It has generally been the case that a complaint gets further if it's referred to, say a local PD, by the FTC rather than by some guy calling in. Just my experience. I've had to deal with issues such as these before, either for myself or on behalf of some family member who thinks that just because I'm an attorney, I "know about these things"...yeah, right.

And, as mentioned, filing with respective attorney generals will be a good thing also. Certainly Bill knows more about the CT AG than do I, but the fact that "Dickie" boy might think the sun rises and sets with him might just work to your advantage here. They might not get you your money back (assuming it's gone for good now), but they might create just enough of a "oh-shit" factor in this thief's world to make it worth your while.

Thankfully, I've had great results with our (now prior, and now Gov) Attorney General here in Florida. The fact that he's a personal friend might have something to do with that, but one never knows.

Bottom line...good luck with it brother. Inform as many people/agencies as you can. You'll see you have better results with some over others. You have great advice in all of these posts in this thread.

Hi, Dickson! Yes, there are definitely different types of camping. By the way, I also spent some time at the Northern Training Area (NTA) in Okinawa. Great Marine Corps training. I was there in 1970. I remember the leeches crawling on us during the night. I also remember the snakes and the monkeys. Haha! Upon leaving the NTA, it was good to get back to Camp Hansen. Semper Fi, knightlaird

Another NTA grad circa '73. When were you on Oki and who were you with?

A 10dB difference in sound levels is twice as loud. So yeah, it is a difference. Don't know if that's worth the extra $2k, but I'm not the one buying. :)

3rd Bat. 4th Marines, India Company, Weapons Platoon Camp Hansen(sp) Been a long time. Stationed with 2/6 at Camp Lejeune for the remainder. They were good enough to give us a Company. I was with Dragons.

Sorry 79-80.
