Stress?

How do you deal with stress? I’m not too good at it. My main attempts are to go for a hard 3 mile run and lifting weights. Though lately lifting has been on the back burner from the time aspect. I’ve don’t yoga before and that is awesome for stress relief. Also, I try to control my breathing helps a lot. Scuba diving has thought me to control my breathing and I try to bring that into daily life as much as possible, but I still can get worked up. “Venting” to the Misses also helps a lot. She is usually full of good ideas which are somehow missing to me. I guess having an outsider offer solutions to your problems offers an “Outside the Bun” perspective to life’s problems.
 
Well my man, there's a few things I do that help (in no particular order)

Excercise is big, and it seems like you've got that already
Doing things one at a time helps me to feel less overwhelmed
Smoking a nice stogie, drinking (in moderate moderation) and a little time with the wife
Finding out what the cause of stress is, and eliminating it (in a constructive manner, etc)
Talking about it with the wife

Seems to me you've got a few of these down pat, maybe you need a vacation? how about massage?
 
Lately, Its either been working out and just tiring myself out or boxing! Its wonderful for a full body workout , as well as let me punch myself out. Massages are also a great thing.. reading as well if its something good.

I could always use another vacation, but 2 weeks a year limits what one can do. I've never had a real massage. Sounds like something to look into though.
 
I have two weeks too, so I wind up doing 'shortie' vacations (long weekends) which helps alot.

Massages will blow your mind, you'll feel like a wet noodle when you're done. Around where I am there's a massage school that's well reputed that sells 1 hour massages with students for 30$ an hour (about half price) which is pretty awesome.
 
Learn how to meditate, any form of meditation, even meditation in movement, like when you are in traffic, in a long line etc. How about "manifesting your reality",
manifest a stress free existence and it will happen.

BS you say huh? well...I'm not stressed and I used to be you 25 years ago :laugh: :laugh:

Oh yes...have some good sex, often!

I have a drink and a smoke and forget about the world for an hour or two.

My wife is a licensed clinical massage therapist so I can vouch for the benefits of regular massage. Not lately, but it is good stuff.

Anyways, I'm a pretty lucky sort that when I have a hard day at work it gets left at the door. If its really bad I'll have a smoke on the drive home and then play a little WoW or Counter Strike. Bikes rides are great too!
 
I concentrate on my breathing. Nothing helps me more than this. It's probably very similar to some form of meditation. It's not just regular breathing I'm talking about, but deep, diaphragm breathing. The easiest way I've had it described to me is to breathe without moving your shoulders and really concentrate on the breath coming in and the breath exiting. A lot of people try to take twice as long on the exit as the breath in, but I don't find that necessary.

I also always try to find the positive in everything and be optimistic. It's hard sometimes, but the most stressed out people I know are those that are just waiting for something to go wrong. They spend so much damn time worrying about what could happen that they miss the good stuff that is happening.

If that doesn't work a good stiff drink usually helps. :)

(Oh yeah, the sex thing is great, but the other stuff I mentioned you can do on your own.)
 
I would agree with running but also surfing is a huge one for me when the waves are up. oh... and smoking cigars!
 
Me I lift weights like you do, the best way is to just go out with the guys and have a beer. Nothing can turn me from stressed to laughing my ass off in under 5 min like my buddy’s can.

I've been boxing competitively for many years now, and that's something I've never done. :laugh: :sign:

Boxing and lifting weights are definitely great stress relievers for me as well. Don't really get "stressed" too often, but when I do, it's to the heavy bag, speed bag and sparring partner or opponent I turn. And also to the free weights.

Outside of that, when I get stress, I head to my place in the Keys, fire up one of my boats, and head out for some deep sea fishing. After dropping a few lines, or after a session of spear fishing, I sit in my captain's chair and light up a stick and enjoy the scenery...it works wonders. And usually, it's almost customary for all the lines to start going off as soon as I get into a stick, or as soon as I start to eat a snack... :sign:
 
wow, a lot of good ideas! I'll need to look into the massage idea. The meditation thing is similar to yoga, right? How does one actually meditate though?
 
I just say fuggit, no point in even getting stressed out, chances are it's not worth getting stressed out over and you don't think as clear when you are stressed out, which causes you to stress even more. Hug your wife, smack her ass and tell her you love her, stretch your neck and roll your back with your neck, sit down, if it's nice out, enjoy the weather and smoke a cigar, if it's not nice out, watch some TV, there will be something on that will make you laugh.
