The Christmas spirit comes hard for a bonafide curmudgeon. Too many expectations. I prefer Thanksgiving and Easter. All my family expects on those days is good food,. not difficult to come by in an Italian home. It usually takes a significant event to bring out the spirit in me. This year that event occurred in the B$M that I frequent so I’d like to share it with you all.

I got a call yesterday from the young manager telling me he had some rare cigars that I might be interested in. Over the past year he’s been very appreciative of the business that I have sent his way and he’s reciprocated by letting me know when there’s something interesting in the store, and he always sets aside a few sticks for me. So on entering the store he produced the rare sticks, which I purchased. I then told him I wanted to gift a seasoned and very experienced cigar smoker and could he give me some advice. Too make a long story short, I drove him crazy, making him recommend a dozen or so different cigars all of which I told him for one reason or another wouldn’t do. Finally, we decided on limited edition cigar that he said he hadn’t smoked yet. I bought said cigar, and upon leaving handed him the bag and wished him a Merry Christmas. The look on his face was priceless. I’d have paid 5 times the price of that cigar to get the reaction I got. My Christmas has been saved and all for the price of one cigar.
Happy Holidays to all of you and never forget the value of giving. It’ll get you when you least expect it.
