Well, most of you know that I have made the move from Texas (I miss that place :( ) to Brussels ( I love this place  ). I have had 4 different moving companies handeling my stuff from point A to point B and had not lost a thing.

Then the boxes I shipped to myself arrived 6 in all, $400 in shipping and a $1000 worth of insurance later, the only thing ruined is my Humi. I was/am beyond pist!!! I will have to wait until tomorrow before I can start the claims process. Now, this humi was one of my prized possesions. It was nothing fancy, but it was bought for me by my wife while I was deployed and that made it very special. I packed it myself, 5 rolls of bubble wrap, peanuts, newspaper and plastic bags to fill the space. The first thing out of the postmasters mouth was "looks like it was not packed properly" FUCK OFF!!!

I have a bad feeling about how this will turn out, in the end the humi can never be replaced, but I would still like to see the USPS pay.

Sorry to hear it bro, but your cigars are safe and sound, and sitting still vacuumed wrapped inside of Double D's cabinet humidor.

Good luck, USPS VERY rarely pays up on it's insurance from what I hear. The experiences I've had with them is they attempt to just take so long that you give up or forget. They never tell you "no" from my experience once you get past the initial "wasn't packed correctly" stage, but instead just never get the claims done and through to fulfillment. How they get away with it is beyond me!
Funny, I was born in Texas, and spent 4 years (mostly high school) in Belgium (am in college now). Where do you live? I lived in Waterloo.

Sorry to hear of your bad news. It's not much consolation, but you are in Brussels!

Just trying to keep to the silver lining. :)

Describe the damage. Pictures, maybe?

I had this humi CLICK!

It seems that it was droped on the backleft corner with a pretty good amount of force, because it is crushed in, and the glass top is shattered and has a piece missing.

I wish I had pics but the humi never made it to my house, it was delivered to my APO, and I opened it there, and left there after I found the damage. Iw ill have to wait until Thursday to make my claim due to work.

I know it is not much of a Humi, but damn it it was mine!!

Sorry that is all I got for ya Bruce, hope it helps a bit

A quick update.

I got all the forms and such dropped off at the Post Office yesterday. What did they say? Well that I would have to come back on Monday to see if they have everything they need to move forward with the claim. It seems that the UNITED STATES post office closes for BELGIUM and NATO holidays.......I never knew that.

Well, I guess I will see on Monday.

Update

Checked on the status of my claim yeasterday, and they still have not completed their paperwork.....WTF

Just as I start to get over this, the Post Office just starts it all up again....

Yeah, I feel your pain buddy. I mailed several items that I sold on Ebay and I used USP priority mail. Unfortunately, they arrived damaged. Some people just don't give a damn.

Ok, here is the latest news, went into the PO to day and my laim has been filed. It wil be about 30 days before I hear anything. 7-10 days for it to get to the claim center, 5-7 days for them to process the claim, then 7-10 days back to me.

so now, I wait.

Sorry to hear you wasted time filing an insurance claim. USPS does not pay claims, period. I traded a guy for a humi a a couple of years ago. Clearly it had been opened and trashed by someone along the way. We had photos of pre-ship and the aftermath. Filed the claim - denied! Filed an appeal - denied! USPS insurance is a total scam. I feel your pain brother. You can probably tell I'm still pissed.

USPS SUCKS on Insurance! They will do everything to NOT pay. My Mom shipped some things to my Brother here i n Texas last year. Professionally wrapped items. The idiot at the PO said the person who shipped the items would have to file the claim AND they'd have to have the damaged item and box! WTF?!?!? The fuggin box was in Texas and my Mom lives in CA! Round and round for 6 months = USPS NO PAY! They just wear you out. Maybe we can send the Post Master General to GITMO as an enemy combatent! <rant off> ;)

Unbelievable the lack of responsibility government institutions take when it comes to them being held responsible for their own mistakes!

They have no problem charging us an arm and a leg for any mistake we may make (like a late fee for something you never knew you had to pay etc), but the tables turn when they fuck up. That is not in any way fair, but that also is not surprising as well, after all: it is the government we are talking about.

The postal service SHOULD NOT be so nonchalant about this sort of thing though, as some things simply cannot be replaced.

It reminds me of the runaround me and my partner got after the birth of my first child. They broke her arm, collar bone, gave her erbs palsy and a hip dislocation. They did nothing about it, and we were about to be sent home with a broken baby (it was only because we asked a nurse to bathe her, and her arm snapped behind her back that she got any attention). We could do nothing about the malpractice though, because there was no permanent damage.

It infuriates me that government services are excellent at covering their own asses, at the detriment to the general public.

Look on the bright side bro, you're living in Brussels.

Yep... good beer and good cigars and lots of travel opportunities in Europe.

The Beer is great, still need to make it to the Abby to get some of that monk brew, and I found my first cigar shop, down on the Plas, it was closed because monday was a holiday.
