My 19 year old son left yesterday for Europe with his college jazz band to participate in the Montrose Jazz Festival in Switzerland next week. Thursday night as he was making sure he had everything that he needed packed he turned to me and asked if I could give him the name of some cigar shops in the cities they would be going to while over there (Geneva, Florence and Rome). He wanted to buy some cubans to enjoy during his trip.

I brought up the LCDH website and copied addresses for him and also told him to check with the concierge at the hotels he would be staying at for other suggestions. I started to tell him about watching out for fakes and what to look for when he said, "Dad I know what to look for. I've been paying attention when you talk about cuban cigars." I then asked him what he was going to try over there and he rattled off several cigars and as he was doing this I thought to myself that over the last few months he had been asking me questions and listened to me talk about cuban cigars for just this reason so he would know what to look for when he was on this trip! It was nice to know that he still pays attention to things I say.

This past year he has changed so much. He went from barely keeping a C average while in high school to making the Dean's List his first year in college with a 3.95 average. His mother and I were worried when he was high school if he was even going to make it in college! What a change in just a year.

That is great. Kids really are wonderful. My oldest son is 6 y.o. I have another son on the way due in September. I have a daughter who is 13 months old. From birth, to as old as your son, our kids never quit amazing us. Parenting is a wonderful thing. You obviously raised him well. A cigar smoker too? You did very well. :)

Your kid's playing at Montreux??! That's huge Bill. Wow...you know some of the other bands playing at Montreux this year? Here's a partial list. Jethro Tull, the original Yes, Blues Traveler, George Benson, Natalie Cole, ZZ Top (jazz?), The Pretenders and Van Morrison. That's awesome!!

FT, I can never remember how to spell Montreux!

His college is small but it has a great reputation for it's music department. He is really looking forward to checking out as many acts as possible when he has free time.

 You done good Uncle Bill, you done good

Now the hard part. Keeping him outta your stash of Cubans when he returns home from Europe. Doh!>!>!>!>!>!

I'm a big Jazz buff and I'll tell you, your son is gonna have a super time there. Some day we'll be calling you for tickets to one of your son's band concerts.... :D
Like Emo said, you've done one hell of a job with that son of yours.

Great job Bill. Sounds like a fine young man. Am sure Mom and Dad are very proud, as you should be.

Congrats to you and Mrs. Shadow on raising an upstanding, bright thinking young man!

No problem with that Emo. He knows that he would be sleeping with the fishes if he did that! :D

No worries...I had to look it up myself. I meant to ask, what's the name of his band?
FT, they are the Shepherd College Jazz Band and Combo. They played yesterday and today at the festival.

Well, Are you gettng tired of smiling yet :p Give your wife a hug and take out your favorite smoke. This has been well deserved. Congrats to all of you.

Congrats to you and your family Bill!

Junior should be able to find some dynamite smokes in Switzerland and they should be affordable.
