I used the automated mail center for the first time this week. It gave me DC#'s, but they won't queue up when you type it in. Apparently, that service only works after delivery, giving me a headache wondering why all the DC's I sent to various people won't work!

I sent out 4 pkgs. on Monday the 6th. 2 were delivered. I sent 1 Priority, and 1 first class,both are A.W.O.L.

Anybody else have a problem with the auto mail center?

I typically use USPS.com for the standard-sized priorty boxes that I send out. It's easy -- just print out the label with posteg, stick it on the box and drop it in the mailbox. But I do use the mail center when the package is larger than a standard box (passes, etc.) and the line is out the door.

As I understand it, DC#s that go via the mail center do not always get scanned on sending. They get scanned in upon delivery.

I print everything at home, and DCs have never been any good except at delivery. Sometimes, when things get busy around the holidays, you'll get an interim notice that a package has been received, but it's rare.

I use the automated center to send back the MANY packages that the wife orders from HSN, QVC, and Jewelry Television and then sends back. :( No DC numbers for those, though.

indyrob - I use the USPS automated kiosks all the time and have never had any issues. It's very convienent for me; there are two close to my home (in post offices) and they are open 24 / 7 and take my debt card; pretty cool, IMHO.

psyktek's comments mirror my experiences; DC's aren't good for anything like tracking the package, but the number has always gone good once the package arrives.

Good luck - B.B.S.

I've tried doing it from my computer at home but I can't seem to get it to print up. So I just gave up. I suppose I should make a call to try and figure out why.

I use click & ship at home because it lets me schedule free pick up when I have a box bigger than my mailbox. I haven't had any problems in the 8 mos. I have been using it as long as the pick up is entered by 2:00a.m. the day of pick up. With click & ship you also get free DC with Priority mail. At $1.30 a pop and about 80 packages sent out(not all cigars) well you can do the math. I don't have to burn my time and gas to go to the post office either. Gives me more money for smokes.

I use the auto center and had have the sticker come off one package, but just a few problems considering how much crap I mail out.

I did have one package get crushed and then start leaking, I got a call from the post master of my local PO last week asking why I was mailing airplane bottles of bourbon to West TN :whistling:

Felt like an idiot. Never thought about some jerk throwing a huge box on top of my little one. I might just be handing off to the mail lady from now on. ;)

I use mine a lot (used it for all 20+ packages for the blind taste test..it will only allow 10 packages per session. You then have to re-swipe your CC and start all over again).

Only problem I've had is the labels it prints out are HUGE.

Haven't used the kiosk for shipping anything, only for buying stamps early in the A.M.

The 'D' in DC is for delivery. It is scanned at delivery and is not a tracking tool.

They won't even scan the pre-printed label in any more at my PO. :(

I love those machines. They come in real handy when there's a big line or the PO is closed. If they are open when you use the machine you can take them up to the counter and tell them to scan the DC.

Thanks for all the help. Everything got to where it was supposed to. I sent atleast one of them Priority, but it was the last of the four to get delivered. If it doesn't scan a DC until it's delivered, I guess it doesn't scan in as a priority either. I guess I need to go to the post office and check all this out.

Thanks again for the help.
