"A billion Eddie Barzoons jogging into the future
I just reached my 1000th post and it gave me a chance to ask myself why I still like this place.
1. Self-moderated
Yes, on rare occasion Rod has to step in but for the most part we are expected to behave like mature adults and follow the few simple guidelines. This expectation tends to cause people, for the most part, to do so. Of course, we're human and far from perfect as a result. But most people catch on and those few that don't are dealt with on a case-by case basis. The problems really are few and far between compared to the whole.
2. No rating system
This is not a competition - it's a forum. A place to exchange ideas, information, and help regarding our love of the leaf. It's not a pissing contest - at least, not usually.
3. Wide variety of members
Partly because of the first two reasons, the members here represent a wide range of experience, social strata, education, points-of-view, and cigar tastes. The tolerance of this group allows for anyone who loves cigars to be comfortable exploring our mutual passion.
4. Interesting and fun members
Mostly because of the first three reasons, the people here are more open, honest, and relaxed without too much pretense or immature ego games that often afflict other forums.
It's really simple but yet most forums don't get it. Less is more when it comes to controlling a forum. I've tried many of the other forums and, IMHO, this is the best I've found so far.

What better way to celebrate than Hobbit style! Besides, it's easier than a contest.
