What is it with people who smoke with the bands on

I have come to the conclusion that it's not good to keep the band on if you plan to smoke the cigar down past 2/3.

I have seen pics with part of the band brown...

I have heard of only two uses for bands:

a) to distinguish a cigar from counterfeit copies

In this case the band has served its purpose by the time you light the cigar.

b) to keep a gentleman's (or lady's) white gloves from getting stained

I don't know anybody who wears white gloves any more.

If you do end up getting down to the band, you have to wrangle with it to try to slide it down, all the while perhaps burning your fingers, mauling the cigar, and/or tearing the wrapper.

So, for those of you who keep the band on, JUSTIFY YOUR ACTIONS OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE.

I'll give you two smarta$$ reasons and one real reason to keep the band on.

1. So that the bloke next to me knows that I am smoking a superior cigar to his. :p Yep, it's all about cigar-envy.

2. Even though one doesn't wear white gloves doesn't mean that they want their fingers stained. I've noticed that exceptionally oily wrappers will actually stain the fingers.

3. Because I freakin' want to...I got no 'splainin to do to you. :sign:

Hell, I don't know why I keep the band on my cigars, I just do. :whistling:
 
Some Rosado wrappers will also stain the fingers....

Mainly it's because I've torn too many wrappers trying to get a band off where the glue has seeped out from under the seam. What I find is that if I wait until the 2/3 point it has usually loosened enough to slip it off without problems.

Besides, I'm running out of white gloves.... :laugh:
 
i guess i leave it on more for a conversation piece. kinda like dawg said....so the guy next to me will know what im smoking. i cant tell you how many conversations ive started that way. either at the horse track, casinos, pool parties, golf course, etc.

besides, if your not talented to pull off your band 2/3 thirds down without alot of complications....you might want to reconsider holding a lit cigar between your fingers in the first place.
 
I try to take the band off before I light up, but as Psyktek said, it sometimes doesn't want to come off easily. So, I wait until later on, hoping the glue will loosen.
 
I leave the band on until the cigar gets close to it; don't want to tear the wrapper, and the heat makes it easier to remove 'em. Holding the cigar at the band keeps the oils from your skin off of the cigar too.

I for one can't stand bandless cigars. Unless they are in a cab, it's just a royal pain in the ass to keep them organized.
 
I think Cigar bands are cool..I heard froma friend that in Europe the remove the bands almost immediately...but with Americas obsession with name brand recognition...I understand why we keep ours on...

I myself pull mine off..unless I am at a herf..so I can tell my smoke to the guys I am sharing the ashtray with.

My brother lived in Europe for a very long time -- and I visited him often. I did not find the above to be the case at all. I'm guessing it was just that individual's preference.

....exactly. Once the band warms up a bit, they usually always come off far easier.

I heard that was true too.

The main reason I'll leave a band is for fear of ripping the wrapper. But then again, if sitting around smoking an opus or DCM, I gotta show her off! :thumbs: :cool:

Seems to me there was this drunk guy at my party who left the band on his last half finished cigar. :whistling: :whistling:
 
You're all wrong and I'm right. The sooner you all learn to accept that fact, the happier you will be.

I've never found it harder to remove the band before I light up than while the cigar is burning.
