I have come to the conclusion that it's not good to keep the band on if you plan to smoke the cigar down past 2/3.
I have seen pics with part of the band brown...
I have heard of only two uses for bands:
a) to distinguish a cigar from counterfeit copies
In this case the band has served its purpose by the time you light the cigar.
b) to keep a gentleman's (or lady's) white gloves from getting stained
I don't know anybody who wears white gloves any more.
If you do end up getting down to the band, you have to wrangle with it to try to slide it down, all the while perhaps burning your fingers, mauling the cigar, and/or tearing the wrapper.
So, for those of you who keep the band on, JUSTIFY YOUR ACTIONS OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE.
