where do you smoke in the cold months?

Until I get heat out in my shop (hopefully this year), I don't smoke much in the winter. If it's below 20F or so, flavors are muted, many wrappers have problems, and some cigars just don't burn very well.

I used to go out as long as it was above 0F, but it's just not worth it. I do take a pipe out every so often, though.

I enjoy smoking cigars and pipes, but I don't need to smoke cigars and pipes. If I did, I would have put heat out in the shop a long time ago.

I just built a new garage that is way oversized for our two cars and two motorcycles. The rest of the room in the garage is for my shop area and tools, and of course a comfy chair for smoking. I ran a space heater out there this past winter, but this summer I'll be installing a gas, ventless garage heater with a thermostat. That way, I can keep the garage around 40 degrees or so, then when I want to head out there it's easy to get it up to a comfy temp. Now I just need to figure out a remote control way to crank up the thermostat on that garage heater from inside my house.

Hey Gonz....I smoke in the garage also. I crack the doors a bit when I do to vent the place. But it takes DAYS....for the smell to dissipate. Do you have the same issue you did you install a vent fan?

I guess I've never noticed. I don't think the smoke smell lingers on very long, but I'm not sure. I guess I just figured that opening and closing the garage doors a couple times a day gets enough air going in there.

I'm another one for the garage with space heater, music and sometimes the laptop. I agree with FRANCO593; the smell does stay for days but for some reason my wife likes the smell, just not in the house.

Because I am a girl I don't want the smell in my house. So I tend to go to the local B&M. But last week I flew to Cancun to get out of the cold and have a few sticks. Good times.

I don't smoke as much in the winter months. But when I do it is at a B&M or Cigar Lounge and occasionally at the casino.

If it's really cold I'll go to the local B&M. Anything above 35 degrees and I'm in my parents backyard with the outdoor patio heater. That thing is awesome.

got me a "smoke shed" - it's a 10'x14' galvanized steel box, but I've lined it with 1" blue foam insulation and put down paving bricks for the floor. got a solar-powered fan vent, and a rather spanky woodstove to heat it  when the gang comes over, we head out there and fire up the stove - even though is 20-30 outside, we can get it up to 60 or 70 inside, so it's nice and cosy... (and the brick floor helps keep the beers cold too)

Afghanistan! :D

I've been here since October and will leave in Apr. October & November were not too cold but December to February were very chilly. Usually, it's out at the fire pit in front of the coffee shop but lately it's been on the balcony of the Rahimi House. If the sun is out it is quite bearable. Indoors is not an option for me.

I'll post some pics later.

Cheers,

Tony

I smoke in my bedroom. I live with my roommate and my room is the attic. The thing found is that removing the air is better than filtering the air. A small box fan in an open window pulls the smoke right off the end of the cigar and out the window. My roommate (who owns the house) says he can't smell a thing. Works for me.

This is my exact set up..to a T. I live in the attic, use a box fan, and blow towards the fan. Smell disappears after a day or less, esp. with mild cigars.

Its nice to have a nice big heater in the three car garage with a thermostat so we set it for 68 and walk out there and smoke an hour later in t-shirts....pretty nice when its -10 with the windchill. Unfortunately this only happens when i go home to visit my parents......

I always smoke on the patio and if it gets below 50 (I know, I know, thats nothing!) I usually don't smoke or I'll go to the B&M to smoke a few.

My spring project (assuming I am still receiving a paycheck) is to partially enclose a space under my second story deck and put in some propane or natural gas space heaters. Nothing too fancy, just some cement for a patio and 2 side walls with some patio furniture. Until then I tend to smoke while on a walk.

In my old house, I had a great set up that my wife didn't have a problem with which enabled me to smoke whenever I wanted in the house. However, after we moved into our new home, something changed. Long story short, I lost the battle and am now relegated to the garage. The good news is that slowly I'm making it pretty comfortable. I actually have more at my disposal than I did when I was smoking inside. I have a regular sized fridge (always stocked with brew), a directv receiver and hi-fi set up, a projector that displays onto a 70" screen and a nice leather chair that I bought last weekend. It's far from perfect, but not too bad. :)
