Somehow I missed the entire selection and signup on this but was fortunate enough to be allowed in at the last minute. If that wasn't gracious enough The sent me a bottle gratis provided I review it. Due to a ridiculous array of mishaps, illness and drugs it took far longer then I would have thought to drink free bourbon but the time finally arrived and here is my review.

Whiskey Thief Distillery Company Uncut, Unfiltered 93.5 proof bottled 09/15/2025 6 Years Old.

For those that don't know a Whiskey Thief is a long handled dipper usually made of copper or tin that is used to taste test barrels of whisk(e)y by being able reach down into the center of the barrel. Usually about 4 ounces in capacity so to provide enough for 2 samples.

My first thought was that 93.5 proof is on the low side for a barrel proof whiskey. Not unheard of but a bit low. That doesn't mean anything in the big picture of things, it is just an observation.

Nosing gives the sweet grass I associated with a wheated bourbon along with a bit of honeysuckle and a hint of peach.

The first tasting gives a light caramel, a touch of pepper, smoothness from the wheat and at the back of the tongue a cinnamon and baked apple but not quite that but a combination of flavors headed in that direction. I'd like to tell you about the legs in the glass but I can't see them. Not that they aren't there but I physically can't see them. The finish is of a medium length retaining the sweetness at the back of the tongue.

The first tasting was the typical sips and mouth swishes done at tastings. Nobody I know drinks that way and I certainly don't. Round two is not shots per se but half shots that cover the whole mouth and tongue all at once. It holds up with the major difference being the pepper/alcohol on the sides of the tongue fighting for dominance over the cinnamon and sweetness on the back of the tongue. The finish has the sweetness extending to the sides as the alcohol fades away. Actually a better finish then the sipping and swishing. At 93 proof it goes down almost too easy, I put a serious dentin the bottle without even realizing it.

Since this was a CP barrel buy I don't know if they sell something like it or what the price would be but If you want something a bit off the beaten path I'd recommenced giving one a try.

Please contact me directly if this happenes again. I'd didn't see any but did anyone else review this?
