hey gang,
well... was in Best Buy today and they were just putting a few Wii's out on the floor, and I grabbed one. At the Wifely Units© last doctor's appointment, her doc actually suggested she try the Wii for some physical therapy. I never would have believed it, but I was at the appt with her and since we've been having nothing but warm weather, freezing rain and ice ice everywhere. she cannot get out and walk, go pretty much anywhere or do much of anything other than sit around the house. and that gets old... Her doc suggested the Wii as something to do, as it's more than just a console game. We're even going to try and get her to write a prescription for it at her next appt and have the insurance pay for it.

anyways... what's a decent game(s) to get? something fun and entertaining (can even be a shooter type, but needs more than just a simple pointing action) but also needs to have lots of movement options. She's really keen on trying the boxing (she says she's gonna kick my ass!) but we have no idea what is out there... since it's for 'physical therapy' she will use it to get her heart rate up (which is EASILY done these day - she's so de-conditioned) but it also needs to be entertaining and hold her interest (which is HARD to do these days) Nothing terribly technical however... think child's level of skill and attention level (I'll deny I ever said that...)

suggestions?

Wait for Wii porn.

I guarantee that tennis and bowling will keep her busy....

It should've come with a sports disc with like 5 games on it.... at least my son's did. The Wii tennis kicked my arse.... and so did my son. (I'll deny I ever said that...)

Any of the active sports games (which may have come with the the game system). I'm not much of a video game guy but the bowling is hands down my fave. The other sports games are a lot of fun too.

I freaked my kids out after Christmas when I asked someone if they wanted to do Wii Bowling.

Enjoy!!

....but don't don't expect too much luck with that prescription idea.

The Pirates of the Caribbean isn't a great game but it is a hell of a work out. You actually have to do the sword fighting.

Besides that, I'll have to agree with everyone else and say Wii Sports. Those are a lot of fun and keep you moving.

the Wii boxing will be the biggest work out especially if you play against her because it becomes a house competition
however nintendo is coming out with Wii Fit in a couple of months. its an excersize program turned into a fun video game

Definitely bowling.

The Tiger Woods Golf game is fun. A little too realistic. It's bad enough that I slice in real life...

Some good exercise games for the Wii, and the only REAL appropriate thing to do with a Wii is the following:

1.) Place Wii on floor.

2.) Strap on industrial boots with metal soles.

3.) Jump up and down several times on Wii.

4.) Flip over Wii.

5.) Repeat.

Okay, so I'm a 360 fan...I admit it. Try Wii sports. It'll give you 10 minutes of fun. :p

Super Mario Galaxy -- she'll love it. Also Raving Rabbits. Wii Sports is really fun for multi-player action.

Wii Sports - you buy the extra controller and for another $10 they add a bunch of fun games....bowling, tennis, boxing....etc.

If she's into shooter, I think Resident Evil is a good one. Didn't see an age, but its the only shooter I've seen played. Some people in my dorm got addicted to it for a long time so it must be pretty good  . Although not as much movement as you'll get out of the sports games.

There is some type of Olympic game out now. We spent a night playing it and could never get close to playing all the game types. Its tons of fun and would probably get the most movement out of it (along with the Sports game that comes with it).

Do the following in the following order:

1) Go reserve Super Smash Brothers Brawl ASAP.
2) Go reserve Wii Fit ASAP.
3) Play Wii sports until the #1 comes out.

:) Wii sports is fun. Super Mario galaxy is fun but not as body involving. I personally think that boxing and tennis take the most out of you fully body. Baseball can too, but it's boring. I'm getting Wii fit for the wife and brawl is just gonna be a blast if its half as good as the original Super Smash Brothers.

thanks all... I hooked it up tonight and we played the included Sports games. She was able to do one game of bowling and that was it... but it did what we hoped - got her moving and having fun while doing so. I tried all the other games as well... I can see some fun with the boxing! Not to mention hitting some home runs in baseball.

So... what games might *I* like? Shooters mainly... not gonna compete with the 360 of course, but could be fun regardless. Heard some good things about Manhunt2 I think it was?

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is a good "active" game, my son and I usually play on the weekends. Its pretty fun, especially if you like to compete against your significant other. I personally like Wii sports tho, Tennis is the Sh*t and I love Wii play when you can double barrel the "Target shooting game". Have fun!!!!!

I've been thinking about getting one of these as well. Heard nothing but good things about it!

Hope she gets to feeling better Jim!

Love the boxing and tennis. I haven't seen it yet, but my son said the wrestling game is a good workout.

I second this. What a riot, and it is funny to boot. My family sat around and took turns playing every evening until we beat it, laughing the entire time. I have the second one on it's way as I type this.

Get Boogie Jim. You have to sort of dance and keep a beat, it also comes with a mic so you can sing some Karaoke.

You can do a daily fitness on the Wii. The best I've gotten is 23 and can't get any lower.

As for shooter there is no better game than Call of Duty 4 but alas it does not come for Wii yet (or ever) but a good replacement to it is Medal of Honor Hereos 2 and it goes online for multiplayer fun. i love it (yet its still no COD4)
