Well, I should fit right in!

In attempt to further hone my assholiness, I have been closely following @CigarStone ‘s
posts since I joined. I figured I might as well learn from the best! 😁
I get blamed for everything I do!

To be honest, I am taking a lot of abuse for doing something that everybody else wanted to do but wouldn't step up. LOL

I can tolerate most people. Even if they are assholes. Russian saying goes : there is at least one asshole in every family. Having said that the good of the family should always come before any individuals agenda.
Now that this family has one less disturbance to worry about - let’s get back to enjoying our cigars. Hoping to do that with more of you in person this year 👍

I love that idea Dan!

I have seen problems like this in cigar forums going all the way back to the alt.smokers.cigars newsgroup days… instead of people seeing how they fit a forum, they try to make the forum fit them. Every forum and online community (cigars or otherwise) has its own culture, group of FOGs, rules, and guidelines both written and unwritten. Members have to pay their dues in every new community they join, no matter how long they have been around elsewhere. It is their job to take a step back, observe, and see how they can fit in – it is not to step in and try to change things to fit their agenda.

In a somewhat parallel scenario, I changed jobs a few years back. I am a high school counselor and interviewed and was offered a job at a different school in a different district. Now this is my 25th year in education, and I knew I had more experience than anyone else in the department by at least a few years. But what did I do? I started work, I shut up and kept my eyes and ears open. I learned about the people I work with, how they do things, what their expectations are, what the kids are like, etc. I did that for quite some time finding my place in the department. Only then did I start making observations and recommendations based on my experience and all that. And now ( and I’m not tooting my own horn in saying this), I’m well-liked by the students and staff and have experienced administrators asking me for my opinion about things. I shut up, paid my dues, and proved myself.

This was not done in this case, and I say this despite him trying to butter me up by posting an affiliate link to the place I order coffee from without me asking that I had to ask him to take down.

Okay enough rambling… time to pack cigars and head out to a fish fry!

Dan: Now that I am retired, I would be happy to help organize a herf somewhere between New York and the rest of the east and midwest?

Once it gets warmer I am totally up for some nature herfing. Maybe some fishing, bbq etc. I know you and John like it very outdoorsy, but if we can do something a little more comfortable I am sure some people here would gladly join.

Or we can just wait till summer for a pool party at my place 😉

Well, I think the poll speaks for itself. Even the 1 person who came out in support of removing the ban didn't even vote no. With that said, it appears the ban was justified.

Why did I take the time to do this? There's a lot of new members who joined recently. It's important they understand why and how CP is run the way it is. Very rare to see 10+ year members of communities - most forums have high member turn-over. Amazing how we have members here with 10+, even 20+ years of membership. That really says something...

I appreciate everyone participating.
Todd, job well done! Yer reasoning is exactly as I’d hoped. FNG’s coming in will hopefully read this, and understand a number of important behaviors that are encouraged as well as discouraged.

I am a bit disappointed(yet not surprised) NOT ONE MEMBER came out in support of their “victim”!! Truly, if I felt ya wronged a buddy of mine, I’m gonna say so. Predictable though.

Thanks for the playground, sir. Very much appreciated. Enjoy the weekend.

While John and I both enjoy the extreme wilderness we are perfectly happy in a chalet as well.😁

Holy mackerel......there is such a thing as a Ban Poll! Voting on this was better than seeing my name in the phone book for the first time.

Jeffery...you retired and took on this guy like it was your full time job. 🤣

Now, back to cigar stuff....
Wow! I haven’t thought about it in a long time, but seeing my name in the phone book was an incredible feeling!

Thanks for sparking a heartfelt memory!

@H. Vachon

The cellular device you use today to text, browse the internet, and occasionally actually make a person-to-person phone call didn't always exist, believe it or not. Homes and businesses used to have what were called "land lines", which were telephone communication boxes that were hard fixed to a wall or countertop and wired directly into the local telephone line system. Before the wireless handset was introduced, the handset was attached to the main telephone receiver by a cord -- you were essentially bound to a three or four foot radius when you were "on the phone". Just like your cellular device has a unique phone number attached to it, each individual home and business had a unique 7-digit phone number, as well. These would begin with a local three number area code that designated the region in which the number was assigned. This helped to eliminate duplicate numbers across the nation. Just think of how many 867-5309s there must have been back in ye olde days! In order to assist in locating the phone number for a home or a business, there used to be an actual publication delivered to your doorstep annually; this was the "phone book" in question. The head of household would have their name listed, alphabetically, in this publication, along with their respective phone number so that others would be able to locate and identify the phone number of anyone they wished to call in that area. As an addendum to the "phone book", there were often what were referred to as "the yellow pages". This is because, as you may have guessed, the paper in this addendum was yellow, as opposed to the traditional white paper for private listings. These "yellow pages" listed, in alphabetical order, local businesses one may wish to contact. Businesses were listed by alphabetically by trade, and then sublisted alphabetically by business name. Sometimes businesses could pay a fee to the telephone company and in these "yellow pages" have an extra large advertisement for their listing rather than just a simple business name and number. These publications are now archaic and relatively anachronistic in society, as the mobile smart phone has eliminated the need for a hardcopy phone listing.
