OFFICAL ELECTION DISCUSSION

This morning I made this post about friendships coming before political debate and here is the perfect example in this thread...

There is someone in this thread, who I like a lot and who is a liberal... he has made some GREAT statements. I say statements, because he wasn't attacking anyone (at least IMO) about which side they were on, simply stating his beliefs and opinions.

That is why you become friends first, because then the political debates don't "hurt" when the other side makes legitimate points - and btw both sides do make some legitimate points.

So here's to you Matt R, good points you have brought up and thanks for proving a point to me.

For those going "huh?" The point is this - notice people aren't totally trying to bash anything he has said - why? Because people are afraid of him... er  like him.

Now take a look at someone else in this thread - similar political points of view and the thrashing he is getting back. Why? Because people aren't scared of him  er.... don't like him :D because he wants to get personal and attack those whose viewpoints differ from his.

First rule of debate: debate the opinion, not the person debating across from you ;)

Ok, sermon over, it's been a long day :sign:

Until later,

Sam

<edit>

This post was originally (improperly) posted to a non-politics thread and was, therefore, redirected to this thread. Its contents are painfully misplaced in light of the current discussions. So, nevermind it.

Didn't Michael Moore promise (or threaten, depending on how you look at it) to leave the country if Bush won?

Shouldn't he be packing his bags, instead of this crap: MichaelMoore.com

Do the families of the dead soldiers really want Moore using them for his bull**** propaganda.

Hey ccat!, you guys send Dodd packing yet? :D :D :D
LMAO, not in this lifetime :D

It's highly unlikely he'll ever lose a bid for his Senate seat. It'll probably be his for as long as he wants it ;)

How do I join the Dodd Squad? :D

AVB and Coventrycat.
I like and respect you both but you're gonna have to stop acting like me.
You are both amateurs and it's embarassing.

LMAO @ Sammy!!

Michael Moore is a $hithead! Period! I'll be happy to help him pack also!! :sign:

Sam, I appreciate the comments. I have no ill will towards anyone on this forum or in this debate, even big mac ;) . What I have are concerns for the well being of America. I genuinly hope and pray that the President will do what is right for America and not for his legacy. I don't believe this will happen, but cast all my wishes for it.

Bill and AVB, I also don't know why the outrage towards each other and thought it was a joke at first. Now, I really don't know what to think, but can tell you both that my respect for the both of you is waning after the last few posts. It's something that puts the discussions between other1 and big mac up to almost polite conversation. Please allow whatever it is between you guys to stay off the forums, for the sake of not only the respect the other members have for you both, but also for your reputations on Cigar Pass.

 I'm very Happy with this election. For the first time I really feel like my vote actually meant something. A lot of close races and my candidate won them all. George W Bush, Bobby Jindal, and David Vitter. I also voted for Hunting/Fishing, veterans, and the homestead. I voted against all tax's and tax renewals. I have some cool banners for anyone interested
Bush/Cheney '04
Monica Billboard
Kerry/Edwards '04

Question: Anyone know about the Alaska election for Marijuana? I'm anxious to hear if it passed. From what I understand it would be legal to smoke, grow, sell, and posses all you want.

I think we need to get CC and AVB in a boxing ring, and televise it on CP. What do you think?

Name the time and place.

Just curious ccat--how did Simmons do against Sullivan?? Never could find anything on that race.

As I was finally able to put much of this election behind me last night, I poured a nice four fingers of scotch, settled back with a good selection of contraband and watched possibly one of the finest films ever made.

Sir Alec Guinness compelled me to quote -

"But there are times when suddenly you realize you're nearer the end than the beginning. And you wonder, you ask yourself, what the sum total of your life represents. What difference your being there at any time made to anything. Hardly made any difference at all, really, particularly in comparison with other men's careers. I don't know whether that kind of thinking's very healthy; but I must admit I've had some thoughts on those lines from time to time."

Without a doubt, The Bridge on The River Kwai is one of the best films ever made.

"Do not speak to me of rules. This is war! This is not a game of cricket!" - Col. Saito

I can think of a lot of things to call Saito, but reasonable, that's a new one.

Col. Saito : Do you know what will happen to me if the bridge is not ready in time?
Col. Nicholson : I haven't the foggiest.
Col. Saito : I'll have to kill myself. What would you do if you are me?
Col. Nicholson : Well I suppose if I were you, I'd have to kill myself.

I'll have to rent that. I haven't seen that since I was a little kid. Next on my list for sure. I just finally got around to seeing 'one flew over the cookoo's nest' for the first time.

Being a product of the 80's, those classics were not as high on the list as 'some kind of wonderful', 'breakfast club', and 'back to school'.

Maybe we should start a thread listing movies that every cigar guy should see before he dies. Whether they are 'best' or not, just that cigar guys should see them. What do you think?

Wow. That's a long list. In my book anyway. Definitely River Kwai is on the top of it. Also in the top ten, if not top five, is one of my favorite quotes from this film:

"You think I am brave because I carry a gun; well, your fathers are much braver because they carry responsibility, for you, your brothers, your sisters, and your mothers. And this responsibility is like a big rock that weighs a ton. It bends and it twists them until finally it buries them under the ground. And there's nobody says they have to do this. They do it because they love you, and because they want to. I have never had this kind of courage. Running a farm, working like a mule every day with no guarantee anything will ever come of it. This is bravery."

Blackhawk Down

(Atto) offering a cigar "General Garrison"
(Garrison) "No thanks, I got one."
(Att) "But these are Cuban. Bolivar ....... Belicoso."
(Garrison) "So is this."
(Atto-laughs) "Miami my friend, is not Cuba."
