COVID-19 vaccine, you getting it?

I'll get it if I can ever get an appointment....

Floyd T - Long time no see! How ya been?

HOLY FREAKIN SHIT!!!!! Great to see yer still around. I was wondering I if you still tuned in at all. Alls good on my end. In MO now. Retired from the cop shop and work with transporting the recruits for the military.

you still smokin and possibly people off?!?!? Lmao!

Had my first shot of Moderna last Friday. As a teacher, even down here at the ass end of the highway in Texas, once the HHS added us to the priority list there was only a 12 hour wait time between my signing up online & getting my vaccination appointment via text message.

The Biden administration has literally purchased enough vaccine for every human in America & is on track to blow their "100M in 100 Days" goal out of the water by close to 50% over. Anyone who doesn't have theirs by summer is just dragging their heels!

Not to get political here, but 1 in 5 Americans think the sun revolves around the earth and something like 1 in 4 think the earth is only 6,000 years old. I'm just gonna hazard a guess that science is not really our strong suit in this country & anyone that goes all anti-vaxxer on this is getting the 🤨 from me as to which of those OTHER groups they might belong in. 😂

I just wanna eat in a restaurant & hug my grandniece again. Safely.

Way to follow the instructions there bud...

"Believe."

That's the cool thing about science: it's true whether you believe in it or not.

Wrong again science has been proving incorrect many times. Your mask and vaccine are just a hypothesis that are yet to be proven... We can continue to engage and have a civil debate or just agree to disagree. But can we stop with the condescending comments and emoji's, they are not necessary...

Yes, I got my first shot last week and will be getting the second on April 1. My wife is high risk and I have family and good friends I haven't dined with in a long, long, long time so I'm willing to risk the unknowns at this time for all of the knowns at this time. JMHO

Fine people of CP!
First I have reported Brad for his political post to the moderators.
Second, no matter what you believe or think, there are Americans out there who do not agree with you. This is fact / science. You cannot change it any more then you can change your wife's oppinon on why you need fancy, seasonal dish towels that cannot go through the dryer. SOOOO, calling anyone who doesn't agree with you mean names or hurtful memes is not nice or polite.
Lastly, you cannot control anyone's actions other then your own. That includes how they chose to respond to the pandemic. All you can do is love them for who they are and respect their adult choices.

Now...

Anyone who needs to fill this out, here it is:

To get this back on track, I'm waiting on long term research to come back and give more definitive results on it. Since I've had it already, I'm not too worried about getting it, and I mask everywhere and have limited contact with patients as much as possible with our regulations while doing excessive cleaning. I will be getting the next round if more research comes out on the after effects of the vaccine, as I do see people in clinic and, like someone else pointed out, the vaccine technically doesn't state that the virus can't still be spread, just not contracted. Hoping the scientific research shows this more. I'll eventually be getting it, just holding off for the time being.

Side note, pretty sure we are gonna be masking up from here on out. If not now, after the next round we probably will be.

I got my vaccine. Moderna both shots. After 1st one my arm really hurt for 2 days. After second felt tired for a day and the just fine.
The reason I got it is that I knew personally too many people who got sick and some who died from the virus. I felt that getting the vaccine really brings down the chances of getting sick. I also know a few people who got sick after the vaccine and they got over the virus in a few days to a week with very mild symptoms. That worked for me on a logical level

even though I am not a scientist I also looked at the actual filling with the fda for the Moderna vaccine and all looked legit both from the statistical data and the diversity of the candidates in the trial.

also I want to be able to travel and enjoy the things we did before the pandemic. Even something as simple as eating at a restaurant You go in with a mask but the. You take it off so for me it was just a choice based on lifestyle and what I saw in print. I also have an acquaintance who works at NIH and she said totally get vaccinated. Her advice as a friend.

Got COVID and then followed it up with both doses of the vaccine and know a hundred plus guys who did the same. It's pretty nice knowing I'm not going to catch from it from a patient and bring it home. To be honest having the disease probably would have been enough, the vaccine is just a safety factor.

The idea that the vaccine was "rushed" is more of social construct than anything else. Modern technology allows us to achieve great things much quicker, I can fly across the country in hours when it used to take weeks via a Conestoga wagon.

Much of the work was done years ago and polished up for COVID. A review of the vaccines would seem to indicate they are much more effective than original thought and other than some early reports of some adverse reactions, we really don't seem to be seeing a lot issues.

OK, I will play, since your practically begging for it... First, just because I or others do not agree with your view on this subject does not mean we are ant-vaxxer's or in some other group that you want to group us in that is anti-science or somehow less intelligent. Actually it's quite the opposite, there is NO science for this vaccine as it pertains to long term affects. Second, others not getting the vaccine does not keep you from going to a restaurant or seeing your family. If you believe masks work and you believe enough in the vaccine that you condemn others who won't take it, then surely if you do both you are safe to do as you please. Third, insulting everyone that disagrees with you by implying they are cavemen is simply rude and uncalled for. you're on a forum with people from all walks of life with different opinions, get over yourself!!!
While I agree with a lot of what you're saying, you also have to acknowledge the thinly veiled judgment going in the other direction as well.

I work in healthcare, I got the vaccine back in November, mostly to protect my family from me. I work directly with covid patients on the daily. I’ve seen them looking fine, and I seen them pass away in front of me, starving for air, young and old, it don’t matter. I recommend people get the shot, especially those at greater risk (elderly, lung disease, etc..). I have no problem with people that don’t want it. One thing is for sure, it should be a choice. They can take that mandatory communist bullshit to North Korea. I have colleagues that denied it, it is a personal decision, To each their own. I got the Pfizer vaccine, first one felt like nothing happed, 2nd shot felt a little crappy nothing crazy and was perfectly fine 24 hours later. I have noticed those who received the Moderna vaccine tend to have more of a “reaction” with the second shot. I say “reaction” because it’s not really a reaction, just your immune system doing it’s thing. This could be for many reasons, for example the Moderna vaccine contains 100 micrograms vs the Pfizer vaccine at 30 micrograms(this is only speculation 😉) My dad got the moderna and was laid up for a day or so (he actually had covid back in November, I don’t know if this resulted in a stronger reaction or not) , friends and other family as well reported feeling what I would consider worse than what I have heard/experienced from Pfizer folks . Even with this though, I wouldn’t hesitate to take either one. I also recommend for those who do get the vaccine to take some ibuprofen (barring any contraindication) after your second shot, it may help a bit..... stay safe!

on a side note in SKYDIVNEKD’s post he may have a point, my bro in law had covid, and considering the time line he would have been most contagious when I was with him. I drank bourbon out of his glass multiple times as we were sampling and walked away with a clean bill of health !🤷‍♂️
Point! Bourbon !

A member brought his political bias into the conversation, while insulting everyone that disagreed with him... I simply called him out on it... I am certainly not passing judgment as you can see I have liked just about every response to this thread, even if I didn’t agree with their stance...

Yeah, from what I have heard, early effects seem minimal. Now, did I read correctly this is the first time this type of vaccine compound has been used on humans? Or did they use it previously with a different virus compound added to it? that was my biggest hangup, was the thought that we are in early stages of this compound in human testing? I honestly can’t remember if I read that or made it up.

I'm undecided. The problem is, I don't trust the news. It seems to me that reporters today are more commentators who spin the facts to support whatever position they want people to believe. And COVID has been so emotionally and politically charged, that I find any and all information about it to be suspect. For every scientific fact touted by an expert about masks, vaccines, etc. there are other scientific facts touted by other experts who draw opposite conclusions. Many experts have reversed their positions, and all the "news" sources commentate on that to reinforce their biases. It makes me not trust anything I read or hear.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll know if there are any long-term effects until the long-term. By then, everyone will have done whatever they will do, and it will be too late to change their mind.

When I was in the military, I got all the shots because we didn't have a choice. I took the entire Anthrax series to set the example, even though some Marines refused it and were getting demoted and drummed out of the Corps as a result of their refusal. Honestly, I didn't think about it very much; they were required so I got them. I always got a flu shot as well as a multitude of other shots for the same reason. But since I've been out, I haven't had a single shot. Mostly because there's nothing requiring me to get anything now. Maybe I'm being foolish, I don't know. I'd ask my doctor for advice, but I don't have one. I've only been to the doctor twice in nine years, both due to injuries that were treated at our local medical express clinic.

I'm in a fairly low-risk category. I'm healthy, I have been working at home all year, and I haven't been on an airliner in 12 months (for the first time in 20+ years). Even prior to last year, I run in fairly small circles. The only exceptions are airshows and travel, and I haven't done either recently.

I suspect that at some point I'll have to get it in order to travel, which I do for both work and pleasure. Until then, I'm content to let people who want it be prioritized ahead of me.
