Cigar Boxes

After this thread I am actually thinking of doing a coffee table. I will put my favorite lids on the top and cover it with polyurethane! Might even try to dress it up with a box in each leg some how!

Dang IT !!! ya stole me secret project! Now that it is out- I was thinking of doing this to a wood form, maybe a window form, kinda like a shadow box. The best I could describe it would be like a medicine cabinet opening as a coffee table? ( I will look online for a similar image ) the top would be clear glass and the lids would be fitted to line the inside with a good poly coat. I personally would put a latch on the side to lock it away from little hands. It would give E a great place to put a clean ashtray and accessories!

Edit: add LINKY

Found another LINKY

book cigar boxes--hiding treasure in a bookcase

now there is an idea- a book. hmmm, makes me think if there were a way to use it just like a three ring binder of sorts, as a cigar dossier....hmmm.

You might even sacrifice a few sticks between the lids and cover those as well ???

It is on it's way Wyatt! ha ha

That is pretty cool Cheekie!

Maybe just make coffee table in to a humidor with a glass top so I can look at my cigars all day!

Looks like I have got to do some home work!

Now there is an idea I saw in a catalogue, begs the question.... Aside from having to really put stripping and make sure you get a good seal; How long would the cigars last? AND would the constant light to the cigars cause UV issues?

Hey maybe some slightly tented glass would probably work!

That was what I was thinking.

I actually saw one at a cigar shop in San Jose once. The guy who was making them lined the wooden box with brass, cut out cigar rests and lined them with brass as well. He then put a piano hinge on the lid and attached a small brass chain to keep the lid from opening a full 180 degrees. Very nice looking (and I am sure my description is nto doing it justice) and I am thinking of giving it a try myself. The trick is of course cutting the brass (1/16 in thick) and bending it to fit the cut out cigar rest. Other than that it should be a fairly easy project.

I would have just bought one but the guy wanted something like $180 bucks for it. It was nice but not THAT nice.
