No doubt, that is a terrible cigar.

Cory, I'm getting to this late and could go back to the list and see what's left, but if Jay's going with the Double Connecticut, well, maybe you could just pick one for me. :) Great going, thanks so much for the pass.

Hey Cory -

I'd like to thank you for organizing this pass for all us newbies, the selection of sticks, and the great organization. I had fun and learned a lot!

Thanks!

I would like to put my two cents in here. I wasn't going to at first because I thought it might seem like a group of guys that have been around awhile were piling on the new guys/host, after things got a little out of hand. I hope this comes out in the constructive tone it is meant as and not hypercritical.

I too have a problem with some things in the Lawyers, Guns, & Money Pass.

Since I've been here in regards to passes some rules were flexible across the board, others were to be strictly adhered to. Not even the pass host was to deviate from these, and it's been considered bad pass etiquette to do so, as it sets a precedence for others being able feel these things can be changed.

#1 would be the value for value and stick for stick. I've seen this preached time and time again in the past. It needs to be as close as possible, and discussed as much as needed. Especially, when most participants are new. Past host can change rules like it's acceptable  to exchange non Cuban for Cuban, but price differentials over .50 should be scrutinized by the group. Being ok with the trade almost a $1.00 off because you want to try that cigar, or don't want to seem too rigid does more harm than good. The exchange has to ALWAYS be stick for a stick. Not three sticks for that Behike I want. This along with rarity and age factoring sometimes as well when proposing P&T's  It can be a bit of work, but that's the whole point, to teach everyone reading and participating about these cigars we are trading for. Not to make it all seem petty.

This quote from my first "Training Pass"  here was required to teach newer members do's and don'ts at the time is a good example of that thought.

Let me start off by saying this is a great idea for a pass.

After reading through this last play, I think it was handled great by both parties. I know alot of people think that .10, .25, even a .50 difference is kinda ticky tack to dicuss. But it's plain and simple. The line has to be drawn so that everyone planning to play in passes understands. Once you allow small discrepancies to fly then slowly but surely, it gets taken to the next level. The easiest way to keep this from happening is to not allow any IMO.

The most important part of listing puts and takes come down to them being listed what put, was for what take, exactly. I think it's rude and insulting when players list takes and puts in a group for everyone else to figure out what was for what. When you are making selections, you know what cigar your putting to replace what you took, so you should list it that way. Again... when your in a pass... it's going to cost you. Plain and simple.

Mistakes will happen. When they do, just handle it like adults. Leave your ego at the door. This was a perfect example of how to communicate. Knowlege was passed on to many, not just the two involved.

Nice job!

#2  I think everything should be transparent as this whole site has been since the beginning. Discussion (even if heated) shouldn't be looked at as "disruptive". Again, this is how everyone learns. This is how everyone knows everything is satisfactory. It doesn't sit well with me to know pretty much the experienced member help is taking place behind the scenes. I as a CP member/non-participant/participant want to be able to see the questions being asked, and how the voice of experience responds. Some might weigh in and disagree respectfully, then a good thought provoking conversation takes place. Telling someone they're experienced, but you don't want them posting has me scratching my head........ That's not saying you can't privately ask anything though.

Things were adhered to here in this newbie pass example, but we still managed to have a lot of fun

At first I thought you were truly going senile and posted in the wrong thread! ... Man, talk about bringing back memories. That pass did go really well, and we had a lot of fun. And I made some good friends - the best part.

I read through that whole pass. I wanted to find the issue jfields was referring to .. because I couldn't remember what it was exactly. For those that care, it is on page 8, post 143. Some good information all throughout this pass. .. Read more, post less. And step away from the keyboard and smoke a cigar to chill out before you go postal and flame someone. .. Getting off topic.

I don't know what the issue is w/ the aforementioned pass, but the pass host has the final say. One good reason to know who you are joining a pass with, and also why you want to think twice before joining one hosted by the BeeDog.

Per your question back in 2007 ... I think enerjay has a picture where I made to 3 sheets.  :whistling:

Long ashes!

I disagree Cory. This pass was also my first and I learned a lot, but he was installing rules where you could tade any cigar for any cigar no matter the origin or the PRICE!. This is his first pass and he's not ready for something like that. You also don't change long standing rules of equal/equal to whatever you want to take for whatever you want to put. From his rules before he changed them, I could take a Behike for an Oliva O. Hard to defend the "pass host has the final say" in matters like these.

So I started going back through some of the posts in the Lawyers, Guns, and Money pass, and it seems pretty screwy what has been going on. But I won't get into that here .. I will address it over in that thread.

I still stand behind that statement. The pass host has the final say about his pass, because they are his/her cigars that are at risk.

People who are participating in the pass, always have the option to no longer be part of the pass if it is not going a direction they like.

And last but not least, Todd wields the all-mighty Rod of Law. He has the power to shut a pass down, lock threads, ban someone, or when he is feeling benevolent, gently guide them towards the Path of Light.

Hello Personal User,

When trading/passing cigars, the puts/takes need to be very relative.  If someone takes a $15 cigar, they need to put back at least a $15 cigar.  It's important all members are treated fairly.  Brian and John are offering advice not because they are trying to pick a fight, rather are looking out for the best interest of the membership.  Like Brian said, there are a lot of new members in this pass.

You may have noticed there aren't a lot of rules at CP.  I prefer to let the community guide itself, rather than creating a ton of rules.  When you create rules on top of rules, you start getting into having to define rules even deeper.  There are some pass rules that are not to change - Brian pointed those out.  There are also some unwritten rules, which some consider to be common sense.  Again, I prefer to keep a high level set of rules, opposed to over-defining.

When hosting a pass, you can specify your own rules, assuming they do not have a negative impact on other members.  Allowing any type of puts for takes is not fair to the rest of the pass participants.

If you have any questions, please do respond back.  The long time members are trying to help, not hinder your pass.

Thank you,
Rod

The skies parted, glowing light shown down from the heavens, and a booming voice declared the TRUTH of Cigar Pass. And so it was written; and so it shall be done.
