Here is the scenerio:

I'm just sitting at the table reading through some posts here at Cigarpass, when my 15 1/2 year old Daughter walks behind me and says "BUSTED"! I turn to look at her and she says " why are you lookin at "PORN", with a disgusted look on her face. I say, I'm not looking at porn! I turn back to the screen and notice the ass on the screen from a profile picture. Now I'm all for a nice butt and perky rack as the next guy, but I have to admit, this was rather embarassing. I mean seriously, it seems that about 50% of CP'ers are using 3/4 naked girls as profile pics or in their signatures. You can't even read a thread about anything here without it being on the screen. I wish there was a rule that this couldn't be used in such an uncontroled manner. It takes away from the integrity of the site. Now I'm wondering how many people at Starbucks have walked past and thought I was on a porn site while I was enjoying my time here at CigarPass.

Anybody else think we should sensor the use of nudity or exposure in profile pics and sigantures?

Just a suggestion. You should set your own viewing choices. If you'd like - turn off the images. Go to My Controls -> Board Settings -> Turn off Signatures, Avatars and Posted images.

Kinda selfish that I can't enjoy the cigar photo's and such that some people have if I do that, especially since this is a cigar site and not a hot chick site. I know there is going to be alot of you that disagree. I'm just trying some constuctive critisismn. If that is your viewing pleasure... you( meaning anybody in general... not just you) have the option to go find those sites. I don't have that option if I'm not wanting to participate in these types of displays and here for cigars. Right?

The same thing happened to me a few months ago. I'd never want to tell people don't use this picture or that .gif because sig tag and avatar personalization could be viewed as a way of self expression, but it does make it so you have to be more aware of your surroundings as you go through posts.

Is the sexy, cartoon broad straddling the phallic cigar - the symbol that is the Cigar Pass logo - included in your concerns? Is that to be removed as well?

I can vaguely see your point and am inclined to respectfully disagree more than agree. On the whole, a majority of the dames posted are done so within the confines of a single thread, usually with NSFW nomenclature. In terms of avatars and sig pics - to place such confines on those is a bit over the top. Yes, this is a cigar forum, so do we eliminate all tangental topics? Sports? Poker? Libations? Its a slippery slope and where to draw the line becomes increasingly tenuous as one travels down a road such as you suggest. To set such confines becomes difficult in that who then decides what is acceptable? Is it the proverbial "I know it when I see it" test? Or do we, once chicks are eliminated/banned, then start banning anything else someone finds offensive - like a picture of Matt R. as an avatar? :laugh: Kidding aside, I trust you can see the point - the next stop is to ban/restrict other things which may be funny or amusing to some in a childish, frat-boy type of way.

Most of us are adults here and if there are concerns about who is going to be peering over your shoulder while you view the forum, then the options are relatively simple - pick a more discerning time to view the forum, disable sig pics as the wise Wilkey has already pointed out, or we do away with everything other than cigars and cigars only. The sound, reasonable option seems pretty clear to me.

I figured someone would take things to the extreme. You have lost focus of the original post. This is not about keeping things to only cigar related topics. It's ok to disagree with me, but no need to take the topic up with such a dramatic rationale.
And yes I'm not delighted with the logo, that's why I haven't bought a hat or anything else with that logo on it. I do however have a SNOBS coffee mug!

It's kind of selfish to deny some folks access to the nearly naked beauties that some people have, too. Unless it's offensive to everyone, I don't think we should ban it. Use the modern tools available to you to cater the sight to your specific needs.

If you're using Firefox for your browser, you can right click and choose "block image", if I remember correctly. This way you can selectively decide what images to see. I'm sure there are some ways where you can rewrite the requests to show random pictures of kittens or something, too.

I'm pretty sure there are separate options for avatars, sigs, and post pictures. I don't think you'd be losing much in the way of cigar content by disabling avatars and sigs...

As to the topic in general, it doesn't really matter to me one way or the other. A couple of times I've been reading posts on CP, and my fiancee has semiplayfully said, "WHO'S THAT?" when she's walked into the room and seen some of the avatars, so I know in concept where you're coming from. This is, however, an adult site, and personally, I don't see skin as any more or less appropriate than cigars or booze.

Your post lends itself easily to my response - no need for you to take such personal offense by it. I have no idea what "dramatic rationale" is, but I suspect that my response is not such a thing. You post a thread such as your initial post, rest assured you are going to receive numerous responses to it - none of which thus far have been overly critical or unreasonable. I've not lost focus of the intent of your post; you are, for some reason, unable or unwilling to see the scope of what you suggest; what it can lead to down the line.

The point is, there are options available to you; simple options. Far superior options than that of revamping the self-moderating policies that have been in place since this forum's beginning. On that note, I've not truly a noted a drastic increase in the use of such images. No one is truly posting "pornography" here as I define it, but therein lies the problem...defining what is acceptable and what is not. Obviously, to actually take things to the extreme, I think EVERYONE here would agree we should not be posting hardcore XXX anywhere on this site - but things which are, for the most part, no worse than "PG-13" or "R" shouldn't be a problem and we should not get mired in trying to regulate such things - something one person finds acceptable, and the other person thinks is atrocious. It's far too difficult a thing to do.

Your "poll" should include "scantily clad" dames as well; even your original post concedes that noone is actually posting completely nude women (at least, not with out some type of warning).

The one thing though is that this is not "public" so to speak. This is a memebrs type site and you have to join and seek it out....so while you have many valid points, just like the people who try and censor TV,movies, etc. You always have the choice to change the channel or not log in...

If it is so prevelant than it is you who is in the minority not everyone else. Serioulsy, and I care less either way so I amm not choosing sides here, you may want to think about seeking your cigar info elsewhere if the community does not suit your idea of how it "should" be. In the end it is a big world out there(and in cyberspaces) you have many many choices and trying to force change on this community and having the gall to tell Rod to seriously look into it is as unfair to us as you say we are being to you. There are some avatars that I find disturbing (definitely not bikini clad women ), I just don't read their posts. One in particular I PM'd and asked him if he would change it.
He took it as a noob bashing and who am I to tell him what to do, when in fact I genuinely cannot look at the avatar.

I should have just disabled his avatar (as has been suggested, although I'm not sure if you can just disable one avatar with FF, I'll check) and maybe I will read his posts.

I dunno, our morals are strange...it's kind of like, your child cannot see a movie because there's nudity but extreme violence is ok because it has a PG13 rating. Same goes with
the avatars take a good look at some of them.

Back in the "DAY", most of us didn't put these in public display. I said "MOST" not all. I was just remembering the glory days I guess. Keep defending your rights to put what ever you want. Agreed. As long as there's an option to shut off the images for those that don't choose to look at them, I'm good. I'm with DoubleD; I have them shut off at work and on at home. At work I have to follow company policy but at home I follow my policies.....
