NEWBIE WAR OF 08': VICTORY!

Greeting everyone,
As some of you already know, I am the dope that unintentionally upset a respected member of this community. I have already privately apologized to him and explained that my intention was never to disrespect him. In addition, I offered to make it up to him by sending him something that he truly enjoyed. (I hope that he takes me up on that offer, as it will be the only way that I feel that I have rectified my blunder.)

When I prepared his bomb, I thought that he would chuckle at the “joke stick” that I added to the other cigars. In retrospect—and after reading some other posts—I see that I had made a bad choice. As such, I humbly apologize to BBS and any other member of this forum that was offended by my poor taste. It was a Newbie mistake, but as an adult, I should have known better. Once again, I apologize.

Nice to know we have about the same taste in sticks as it makes my job so much easier. You are warned.

Sendings some white owls or a few boxes of black & milds yeah, it's funny....and tastefully so. it's a joke, we all get it & can laugh about it. But other things that are being sent are kind of crude. If we're doing this to show our appreciation for the older members of this board (which we are) than we should be tastefull in what we send, ie: less jokes & more quality.

It's easy to build a sense of familiarity with somebody from reading their posts without ever really meeting or corresponding with them. But like B.B.S. said, you really don't know what is going on in that person's life. It's natural to want to be accepted and 'belong' to the group. This community has experience an influx of new members, including myself. Most of us noobs who actually want to be part of the community have acted fairly responsibly. The incident referred to was clearly in bad taste. I'm hoping that the sender intended it to be funny, instead of the insult that it ended up being. Either way, an apology is called for.

The more time I spend reading the boards and the archives, the more familiar I've become with the history of CP and the role the FOG's have played in chasing off negative elements. What I originally perceived as rudeness and intolerance in some of the posts, I now see in a different light. As has been said over and over, this 'war' is intended to show appreciation to the old guard. Keep the joke items in the bombings in good taste. Think twice before you seal up the box.

But enough of the warm and fuzzy stuff.

*Edited to add that as I was typing this, the apology came. Nicely done.

Of course he'll be alright; a mistake in judgment was made, I made a point in return, folks were asked to think about their actions, he apologized, and that, I hope, is that. I just posted what I hope is the last post in my thread and there's no reason to drag this out any further.

My PM box is pretty full with very sincere apologies and I really do appreciate every one of them. It's time for you guys to move ahead with "Project Mayhem" and put this behind you. I have an you should, too.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand. I got a small but deadly device ready to head out the door on Monday. I hope the rest of you that have upcoming assignments are as giddy as I am about this. We have the enemies attention, and it's only going to get worse for them from here. Heck, we've even softened up the granite exteriors of AVB and Devil Doc. Not much longer and we will have won this war.

There was a bit of "piling on" and writing the guy off before he even had a chance to apologize, though. Unneccesary, in my opinion. But it all worked out because MandyPi reacted in an appropriate way to the criticism.

If you have a problem with how I or anyone handled this, John, take it to PM and tell me all about it. I think this worked out fine even if it didn't fit your definition of the perfect path. I went public only after the suggestion of more than one long term BOTL on this board I respect very much.

Don't cloud these guys efforts any further. This is the second little snipe you've made at me and the way this was handled and I'm over it. If you have a point to be made, let's handle this 1:1 and out of this thread.

Mmmmm.....Macanudos are tasty. The same way that unsalted, unbuttered popcorn is tasty. I think a few of the FOGs might not enjoy your "joke" if you send them Macanudos. :laugh:
